"Dick" Sylvis of Riverview, FL. , A man whose life was etched with the grit and spirit of the American West, passed away November 5, 2023. Born in Sturgis, South Dakota, on July 26, 1934, to Wealtha and Charles Sylvis, he was raised in the rugged landscape of a farmer's ranch, embodying the resilience and toughness of the wild west from an early age.

In his youth, Dick thrived on the adventures of his upbringing, transitioning from the life of a cowboy to becoming Richarda tour guide in the caves of the Black Hills near the iconic Rushmore. His pursuit of education led him to the University of South Dakota, and in 1954, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Army during the closing days of the Korean War. He excelled in the Army's engineers signal school, earning the rank of Sergeant E5 before his honorable discharge. His pride in serving his nation remained unwavering throughout his life.

In 1962, Dick's journey took a turn when he met Mary, and their immediate connection blossomed into a marriage a few short months later in Kansas City, KS. Their union brough forth the joys of parenthood, welcoming their children into the world. As Dick's career with General Telephone demanded moves across the country, he remained a devoted husband and father, nurturing a love for the great outdoors in his family.

An adventurer at heart, Dick led his family on countless camping and fishing expeditions across the nation, particularly relishing the beauty of Florida. Beyond his love for exploration, Dick was a skilled woodworker, crafting toys and furniture that became cherished heirlooms for his family.

In 1968, Dick found a new family within the Masonic Lodge, where he embraced the values of fellowship, charity, and service. As a 55-year Master Mason of DeSoto Lodge No. 105 in Riverview, Florida, he dedicated 19 of those years serving in six officer positions,
