Obituary of Richard Francis Tallini

Richard Francis Tallini died October 11, 2022. Richard Tallini, "Dick", was born in Roxbury, MA on June 19, 1924, and graduated from Deering High School in Portland, ME in June 1942. Dick enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on October 30, 1942, when he was 18, as a radar specialist. He rose to the rank of Sgt 1st class. Then in 1945 Dick was reassigned to Company F, 305th Regimental Combat Team of the 77th Infantry Division, where he fought in the battle of Okinawa. He was among those brave men who fought at the Escarpment, also known as Hacksaw Ridge.

On April 10, 1946, Dick was discharged from the army and a few months later, on August 17, 1946, married his sweetheart, Barbara Ann Ellis. Barbara and Dick enjoyed one of this world's greatest love stories for the next 76 years of marriage.

Dick went to college at the University of Maine after getting married and graduated 4 years later, on June 19, 1950, with his B.S. in Chemical Engineering...his graduation date was a real Red Letter, Banner Day for him as it was not only his graduation, but his birthday and Father's Day rolled into one.

A few months after graduation from college, September 1, 1950, Dick was drafted back into the military for the Korean War, where he was assigned to the 9771 Technical Service Company, Sgt 1st class, as an Atomic Weapons Specialist. Dick stayed stateside until his discharge on September 1, 1951. After discharge Dick aggressively pursued his career, he worked for:

Harrison Radiator - Division of General

Motors. Lockport ,NY . Oct 1, 1951, through Sept 30, 1955, as the Supervisor of Chemical- Metallurgy Laboratories for 3 plants.

Stewart Warner Corp. Indianapolis , IN. Oct 1, 1955, through Oct. 1958, as Senior Engineer & Group Leader - Air to Liquid Heat Exchanger.

Trane Company. Lacrosse,

WI. Oct. 1958 through June 1960, as Senior Engineer of Plant 7.

Janitrol Aero. Columbus, OH ,

July 1960 to September 1962, as Operations Manager.

Standard Thompson. Waltham, MA , Oct 1, 1962, through Sept. 1975. Vice President of the Aircraft Division and inventor of the Heat Exchange Apparatus patent.

And lastly, from 1973-1975, as President of Aircraft Services & Supplies. Bedford, MA .

Dick retired in 1975 at the age of 51. His retirement was filled with activities; he was a true Renaissance man. Hobbies included woodworking, photography, painting, knitting, building aircraft models, home remodeling and grandfather clocks. He built from scratch a 16-foot speedboat and canoe as well as a cabin in the woods of Maine. He built numerous sheds, children playhouses, gazebos, masonry and too many other things to mention. He was a true Jack of all trades and a master of everything. He always put his family first and was as generous a man as you could ever meet. We will all miss and love you, Dad. You were our hero! God speed.

Dick leaves behind a loving and faithful wife of 76 plus years, Barbara Ann (Ellis) of Las Vegas, NV; Son - Richard Tallini and wife Frances of Ottawa Hills, OH; Son - Roger Tallini and wife Paula of Flagstaff, AZ; Daughter - Barbara Lawrence of Las Vegas, NV; Son - Tom Tallini of Los Lunas, NM; granddaughter Christine Gallup and great granddaughters Addison and Alivia all of Las Vegas, NV.; 4 grandsons and 8 great grandchildren.

Alas, two years has gone by... not a day goes by that I think of you and Momma when reflecting on things that I am doing or chatting with Booboo ... You were really a unique one-of-a-kind person... I really appreciated you all the more as I am aging... I love you Dad...

Yesterday I had pondered my memories of your accomplishments of the family life you had bestowed upon us throughout the early years - I was struck of what you had been to us - a true father of protection, taking care of our needs to get through during our education, summer days, and especially the holidays... we were never without... understanding each of our blueprints of makeup to blend in as one family... Dad, you were amazing! Thank you for your guidance of becoming a self-reliant independent person I have become... I can see that Barbara reflect a bigger part of you in her continuing walk of life that I will always feel that you are near... Happy 100th Birthday in Heaven, Dad... Love you Dad...

Happy Father's Day, Dad... I totally agreed with my sis as being the best dad for us...  While you are no longer living among us - our memories shall continue on... As each passing day, as I get older, I am more amazed at all of your accomplishments, your intellectual mind - very few can compare with, and the deepest love you had for us and especially you had for Momma...  You are truly a Renaissance Modern Man... Happy Birthday to you, as well...I missed and loved you very much...

Uncle Dick was a very generous man. I have many memories from my childhood of him and Aunt Barbara .
When my Grandpa and Grandma Reardon celebrated their 50 th Wedding Anniversary at the King Phillip Ballroom in Wrentham, he and Barbara were the photographers. They made a montage of the event and were meticulous about making sure all the relatives of my grandparents were included! They also made a huge photo/ portrait of my grandparents. This portrait is still hanging over the fireplace at the family cottage in Wareham, MA.
Another memory I have is when Uncle Dick and Aunt Barbara sold their house in Sudbury, MA and bought an Airstream Trailer. They planned to see the country in it , however before leaving they spent time with us in Medway. They parked the trailer in the office parking lot for two nights, before bringing the Airstream to Ciecle CG Campground in Bellingham,MA. I had much fun with them on those two nights! We played card games and board games and they even went for rides on the red tandem bike with me!
The World is going to miss Uncle Dick Tallini! RIP Uncle Dick!
