Richard Topper Obituary
He was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a 1953 graduate of Evansville College, where he received his degree in Elementary Education. In the 1940's he was employed as a bookkeeper for Hasting Equipment Company. He began his teaching career at Bethel Township and then in 1954 began teaching for the MSD of Mt. Vernon at Hedges Elementary. He retired in 1994 as a Librarian at West and Marrs Elementary after 40 years of service. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Richard had been a past chairman for the Posey County Church Council. He enjoyed reading, cooking and listening to music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Ralph, Charles, Everett, and Kenneth Topper.
He is survived by two sister-in-laws, Verda and Edna Topper both of Mt. Vernon, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. Mt. Vernon, IN with Br. Pres. Bernard Gerth officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 11:30 am service time at the funeral home.

I too had the privilege of being one of Mr.Topper's students. He was always so kind, patience, and loving to such a rambunctious group of young children. May you rest in peace, sweet teacher!

He was one of the greatest teachers I had over 16 years of education. He was always caring and made learning fun in West Elementary's 5th grade. Mr. Topper (Cosmo, as we lovingly called him) will always be with me.
