Richard Louis Toupal

I was in shock when I wrote my first message. I met Dickey in the summer after the 6th grade. We became best friends and were always over at each others house on the weekends and over the summer. Major Toupal would make us all steak and eggs sometimes for breakfast. (We never had steak for breakfast at my house.) Tommy and Kathy were just little kids and Ronnie was just Dickey's little brother. At one time the Toupals had a basement full of fireworks and we once put on a fireworks show for some of the locals at Infantry post over the 4th of July. I will never forget growing up with you on FSH and continuing our friendship after we grew up. I raise my glass to you. I will miss you.

I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Dr. Toupals family. Dr. Toupal was so well-respected and everyone always had such kind things to say about him. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers go out to his family and great staff. The little time we shared was great but I will always remember you when I smile.

Seventeen years ago Fate lead me and my husband to meet the Toupal's! God is good! He gave us some of the most, the best times of our lives enriched with the friendship "family-like" journeys with Richard and Gigi! WE enjoyed life to our fullest when we travelled or wherever we were! Richard also blessed us with many new acquaintances, now friends, and family that we claim as ours now and forever! Richard, you were my friend, my brother, my only brother! I will miss you greatly here on earth but you will always be with me in heart and spirit! Wherever I go you are with me and I will celebrate the good times! I love you dearly as I do Gigi! You have brought me closer to your whole family! Cheers to you my dear one! I love you!

Richard was a great friend. For almost twenty years, he generously shared his love and knowledge of fine wine and food. He obviously loved life. He always had a sunny disposition. As the years past and I saw him less, I always considered it a special occasion when I had the luck to see him at Van's and some of his other favorite establishments. Your son, brother, step-father, and husband's life has touched many people in many postive ways as evident by all said in this Guest Book. More personal has been Richard's impact on my daughters life. As Kourtney's father, please accept that I could not have asked for a better man to fill a paternal role as her step-father. His gracious and unquestionable integrity, unselfishness and patient nature, and steady hand is indelibly etched in the wonderful young women my daughter has become. Gigi, I was a year behind the both of you at Cole. The school was so small, we were all "close" regardless of what grade you were in. I can remember walking down the hall of Cole and listening to him laugh, thinking well the next grade can't be too bad!

I knew Dicky for many years going back to the Cole High School days. He always had a great sense of humor and could make you laugh. His passing has left a void that can't be filled. I remember we were working as construction laborers together one summer while in college; it was hard, difficult work, the weather was typical Texas hot, but Dicky kept me laughing most all the time we trudged through our tasks. Gigi, Mr. and Mrs. T, sons and daughters and all of his family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Dicky will always be remembered with a smile which seems very appropriate.

You and GiGi are family(we even fought like brothers!) our memories of our travels and outings together put a smile on our faces as we reflect on all the things we have done over the years. How do you sum up a 40+ year cathartic relationship in just a few words? The thought or mention of Toup will forever bring a smile to my face. I thank God for his time on this earth and his parents and GiGi for sharing him with us.

Although our hearts are made heavy with the sorrow from the loss of such a beautiful man, our faith is renewed in knowing that Heaven is where we will meet again. Dr. T was the dentist to my beloved daughter who passed away last year, so I feel this pain as well.
May the thoughts of your Angel awaiting your reunion from up above sooth you in your time of grief --as the thought of me reuniting with mine soooths me. God bless.
