I remember when Richard was a young man and my mother (Karlene) yelled at him for putting his cowboy boots on top of his mother`s baby grand piano.

I will be eternally grateful to Dick for being such a fantastic grandpa to my kids. He shared with them everything from important life lessons to how to build a bow or tie a fly. He spent countless hours with them driving around on the tractor, exploring the garden or watching birds in the yard. His love was so apparent.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Richard was a handsome teenager, as I remember him.
My family lived by Wallin´s, just a few houses west of them on Keller Lane, in Holiday, Utah.
I remember him as kind and funny, really tall, definitely not arrogant. Oh, he was very, very cute too, in a "Pat Boone" sort of way.
My father, Bill Skaggs owned the Advertising Agency, " Jarman and Skaggs." Dean owned Paragon Press, and my father used Paragon Press for all his printed work. Paragon was literally the " Paragon," or pinnacle of printing excellence.
I remember how handsome Richard was, and his parents were so proud of him when he decided on medicine as a profession. We all knew how smart he was!
Richard graduated from Olympus High School the same year as my sister. Olympus High School was very new, and it was definitely "the coolest "
high school around!
Entertaining was a big deal for my parents in the 1960´s. My dad and mom would entertain clients all summer long outside on our patio.
Of course, Dean and Pauli were always guests. I couldn´t wait to see how gorgeous and creative Pauli would be with her dress for the night.
Dean always smelled so good, and he looked like he had stepped out of "GQ."
So, my experiences with Richard were somewhat fleeting on a morenature, but out families were intricately meshed.
Whenever the conversation came up about Richard, it was always in the format of great praise.
Goodbye, neighbor. We all loved you and your parents very much.
Give Pauli and Dean a big hug from me.

These are recollections of Dick Wallin by my dear friend Duane Peterson (Georgia) and me, Paul Van Dam (Ivins, Utah). We played with Dick at two different bars on several different occasions. In Salt Lake we would sing at Grogan´s Bar. Dick would play, what we called, the gut bucket. A gut bucket is literally a bucket with a broom handle on top attached to a gut string, a good strong and firm one, and you changed tone by varying the amount of pressure on the string. It was a novel instrument but worked very well. It´s difficult to play and Dick has mastered the art of accompanying us with the gut bucket performing the bass part of our music rather than that which would normally be done by a bass guitar. We also recall him playing the guitar with us when we performed at the Sitzmark, a ski lodge up Little Cottonwood Canyon at Alta Ski Resort. We recall that some of the songs we sang included "The Cruel War is Raging," "Greenback Dollar," "Polly Von," and "If I Had a Hammer." There were more songs than this, but we don´t recall them all. After all, we are old. Dick was a fine guitarist, too, and was one of the few people who played a really good gut bucket along with singing. He was the kind of fellow that was fun and comfortable to be around, and we always looked forward to those performances. We considered him a good friend, a fine musician, with a mellow personality and fun to be around. He real decent human being.
It´s been years since we´ve been with Dick and are sorry to hear of his passing. Our hearts go out to you, Marilyn, and the family. We´re sure he will be sorely missed. Thank you for keeping in touch so we became aware of his passing.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of "Doc Wallen". I have many interesting memories working with Dick in the ER at St. Marks. A fond memory that I have is Fly Fishing with him using the fly rod he made for me. If there is an afterlife then I hope Dick is using his favorite dry fly in anticipation of catching a big Brown Trout. Rest in Peace "Doc".

Dick was such a critical resource and so supportive as I was facing my hip replacement surgery! We also enjoyed knowing both of you over many years. We particularly remember sharing a Westwater and a Desolation river trip with Dick. I had the pleasure of doing several ski tours with him. As we get older, I guess it's natural that we have to fall back on our memories of past good times--thanks to both Marilyn and Dick for contributing to our cache of great memories!

Dick was a great neighbor and hunting partner. He carried the name of Dicky Pathfinder amongst the southern Utah dove hunting crew. He always had a plan for the next hunt. We'll miss his gentle spirit.

I was saddened to read today that Dick Wallin had passed away. Dick was the first person who ever sent me a Christmas card. We were still in high school. Although I haven't seen Dick since our high school days I have always had fond memories of him. I was not aware that he married Marilyn who was the prettiest girl in our class. God bless his family.
