Dear Acey, Terry, Lisa and David,
I grieve for all of you. The death of a parent, of a husband, is such a profound loss, because of the love and because with them goes an enormous part of our lives.
Our families grew up together, and there are things Mr Welch (yes, at my age he is still "Mr Welch!") said to me that I still remember so clearly. The time I tried to catch my cat so he could pet it and he stopped me, saying that he did not want to upset my cat just for the sensuous pleasure of touching it. He put the cat's feelings first. I learned from that. The time he told me the insanely long name of YOUR cat which I actually no longer remember except that Razmatazz was in the middle of it, and he reported this name to me with a completely straight face.
Mr Welch came to the hospital to visit me when I was 13 and in a body cast. Not with dad and mom, just himself, to cheer me up and he spent at least an hour there, chatting with me and making me feel like I mattered. He was such a smart man, and I looked up to him. He was also kind to me and didn't treat me like a little kid -when I was one!
The lifelong friendship of our families, the many stories of "Acey and Dick" and mom and dad are so much a part of our own family lore. You all have shared our grief and our happiness. We share your grief at this terrible time.
With so much love, Rebecca

Dick was a 1st cousin to my father, George Welch. I never met Dick in person as we only connected in late 2012, but we had many phone conversations-some a couple hours long as I picked his brain for Welch family history-which he loved to share, and he was a great story-teller! Until we meet again, dear cousin, may you rest in peace. To Acey and family, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. XO

Although technically Richard was my cousin, I have always thought of him as Uncle Dickie. We will miss him. Love, Susan and David
