SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral service for Richard Carl Wells, 55, will be 12 noon Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Wells. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery near Logansport, LA. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the funeral home.

Rickey passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 after a sudden illness. He was born May 3, 1959 in Shreveport, LA. In 1979 he married Mary Jane Kelley and together, they had two daughters, Chelsey and Paige. Rickey was employed for twenty years by the Caddo Parish School Board and touched the lives of many children. Rickey played baseball and football growing up and continued his love of sports throughout his life. He was fanatical about the LSU Tigers and The New York Yankees. He loved music, including Elvis, Alabama and the Bee Gees. Rickey had a corny sense of humor, loved playing practical jokes, often texting jokes to his family. Rickey was a unique soul who, above all else was a wonderful husband and father and dedicated his life to his family.

Rickey is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; daughters, Chelsey Denise Wells, her boyfriend Tommy Swanner and Paige Alexandra Wells and her boyfriend David Cowart. He is also survived by his parents, Clyde and Jean Wells; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and David Robinson; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Karen Wells. Rickey leaves behind his niece, Kim and husband, Marc Meeks and his nephew, Brent and wife, Jessica Stewart. Among those special to Rickey is Morgan Griffin who was like a third daughter. He will also be missed by his wife's sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Jones, Jean and Larry LePrevost, Arceille and Raymond Lewis, Linda and Thomas Swilley, Gayle and Tim Schroeder. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth, paternal grandparents, Percy and Ruby Wells, and maternal grandmother, Bertha Wickwar. He is loved by his family and he will forever remain in their hearts.

He was the best man i ever knew

June 17, 2014

To: Rickys Family and Friends...my name is Gary Moore and i graduated with Ricky in 1977. I called him "Cocky Man" because of his short muscular build. I just learned of his passing away on yesterday from fellow classmate Jimmy Kile. I was saddened to say the least as i have thought of Ricky over the years and had longed to see him after now about 37 years. I can say this with all honesty..Ricky was a good man ..never heard him say or act negative towards anyone..he had a quiet sense of humor and was sneaky with it...yep he was a practical joker and just plain fun to be around..could play some football..i remember our Senior Year game against Southwood and Coach Morrison ran the heck out of him on a fullback /counter play...he ran up the gut all game long..dont know how many yards he made but he made them pay..we tied that game...any case my blessings to you and Ricky is already missed by me even after not seeing him since graduation but he was my friend then and will always be.
May the Lord Continue to Bless your Family. Gary Moore Woodlawn High C/O 1977

There are three things I can say about this awesome former co-worker. They are in no particular order. One- He loved to laugh and his laughter was contagious to all who were around him. Often, he created the source of laughter (pranks, etc.). Two- He loved his job and no one will ever do it better than he did it! If you worked with this man, you knew he loved the kids he served and wanted the best for them! Three- He LOVED his family and was proud of his wife and girls!
I can honestly say I will never forget him or his laugh. I am blessed to have known him and worked with him during my KEMS days. Praying for that precious family he loved so much!!!!
