Richard Wells Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2025.
Richard Wells, 83, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Furlong, Pennsylvania.

Born on March 1, 1942, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Richard dedicated his life to education, athletics, and family. He earned his degree in Education from Temple University and later pursued a Master's in Education at Antioch College. His passion for teaching led him to a fulfilling 35-year career as a physical education teacher, where he inspired countless students with his dedication and enthusiasm.

Richard was an accomplished athlete with a lifelong love of gymnastics and swimming. As a young competitor, he became the National Junior New Jersey State Champion in both diving and swimming. He continued his athletic journey at Temple University as a competitive gymnast and later earned recognition in the Philadelphia Hall of Fame for Gymnastics. His expertise extended beyond personal competition-he coached numerous championship-winning gymnastics teams in Philadelphia and served as a college gymnastics judge. Additionally, he shared his love of sports by coaching soccer within the Philadelphia School District.

Beyond the gymnasium and classroom, Richard spent summers as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Monmouth Beach Club, ensuring that others learned the vital skill of swimming under his guidance. His love for music also brought him joy; he enjoyed singing whenever he had the chance.

Above all else, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores Wells; daughters Kari Williamson and Melissa White; grandchildren Parker Williamson, Aubrey Williamson, Alex White, Ricky White, and Emily White; son-in-law Stephen Williamson; sister Diane Schaub; and brother-in-law Sherwood Schaub. He was predeceased by his parents Frank Wells and June Olsen Wells, as well as his stepmother Elizabeth Jane Wells.

Richard's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-as an educator, coach, mentor, and loving family man. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
