I was sadden when I read about Rick. I had been thinking about you guys, and so I googled to read he had gone home to be with the Lord. I know you are heart broken and I will be praying for you and your families.

I am so very sorry for your loss and sad that Kathy and I were not able to pay our respects. We are spending the month driving through the West. Rick was always a giant in the field, but, to many, he was just Rick! I have always considered him a real friend and am so very happy, especially now, that we all got to have lunch together when you were out our way. You have our deepest sympathy and may you have peace in knowing how well he fought the battle these last several years.

I checked one off my bucket list a couple years ago when I introduced myself to Dr. Welsh at a conference. We had a brief conversation... what a charming man... what tremendous contributions he made.

I have known Rick for decades when I was just beginning in the field, and his quiet yet powerful style of leadership always impressed me. He will truly be missed by the vision field, as he contributed so much over the years. Sending hugs your way, and wishes that you find peace in his memory. Take care of yourself.

Few ?persons will ever be able to stand before their Creator with his list of accomplishments for touching ?lives in service of his fellow man. I will not forget the occasions that Rick and I corresponded during his illness. The Logan family is ?eternally grateful for Rick delivering the eulogy for at our Mother's funeral when we were to grief-?stricken to complete. ?
Though distance prohibits us from attending Rick's memorial services, please know that we are with ?you in spirit thru the ends of times. ?

Barbara and I wish to offer out deepest sympathy to the entire Welsh family. Rick was a good man, always concerned for the rights of everyone. He will be missed. We will pray for him and all the members of the Welsh family.

Mary Nelle, I'm so sorry for your loss, and for OUR loss in the blind rehabilitation field. We've lost a giant, but we'll forever benefit from Rick's vision and leadership.

Rick was a gentleman who always had a smile and a nice thing to say. The field of blindness education will miss his wisdom and leadership.

To the Welsh/Quolke/Marincic families: So sorry to hear of this loss. My deepest condolences.

Rick's voice echoed in my head when I read his responses to the Leaders and Legends of the Blindness Field Hall of Fame interview. It brought to mind his soothing, sometimes humorous, way of mentoring others in the field of blindness. May all of his family know Rick was loved and appreciated by many. We, too, will miss him and have you in our thoughts as you move through this time of loss.
