Richard J. Wernick, 59 of So Hadley passed away at Holyoke Medical Center on Saturday, February 4, 2017 following surgery for lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Rhoda and Sherwin Wernick of Holyoke. Richard was schooled in Holyoke and a graduate of Holyoke High School in 1975. After high school he worked in his family’s furniture business. After retiring he enjoyed antique collecting, cooking , and being with family. Besides his parents he is survived by his sister, Sarah of Chicopee, his brother David of Cincinnati, Oh. and many cousins. The Wernick family wants to thank the Holyoke Medical Center ICU staff for their tireless work and compassionate care during Richard’s hospitalization. The funeral will be Wednesday February 8th at the Congregation Sons of Zion 378 Maple St. Holyoke at 1 p.m. followed by burial in Sons of Zion Cemetery, Chicopee. Shiva will be held at the home of his parents at 31 Mt Tom Ave. Holyoke the evening of the funeral at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O. Although I know miracles are rare, I prayed one would cure Richard. He was too young to be taken from parents and siblings who loved him. My love and sympathy are with all of you.
