Sorry to hear of Richard's passing. Though I didn't get to know him when we attended Hayward High School together, we did connect when we ended up being neighbors in Sudbury. We celebrate his many contributions to the Sudbury community, especially the Rail Trail.

Dick was a tireless supporter of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and its completion in Sudbury. Dick was thrilled to be able to participate in and speak at the groundbreaking ceremony held at Parkinson Field adjacent to the trail on May 20, 2023.

I knew Dick though the Charles River flying club. 25 odd years ago when I first joined he was one of the first to welcome me and has always been such a wonderful mentor end friend to all. He will be missed.
Fair winds and blue skies Dick....

My husband and I got to know Dick when we got involved to get the BFRT built in Sudbury. I went on to serve with him on the Park and Recreation Commission. He was the king of the rail trail in Sudbury. He was also an advocate for all forms or recreation beyond traditional field sports. He often provided a historical context to many of our conversations on the PRC. At one Town Meeting, he had a slide that showed the various progress steps of the BFRT in Sudbury and how old he was when it happened. At first I thought he was taking too long. At the end, his questioned if he'd be alive when it was completed. WOW! He spoke at the Ground Breaking ceremony but ultimately passed before it was officially opened. We're still waiting for the official opening even though it's getting heavily used every day - thanks Dick! The trail is a huge asset to Sudbury and Dick was also. We will miss him.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Doc's four children (from left) Heidi, Ryan, Kari and Meagan. Daughter Heidi living in the free air on a mountain top. Doc and his two kitties napping together. Doc at the peak of fitness as a (very brief) career as a professional water skier. Doc's family from Wisconsin.

I have many indelible memories of Dick flying his model sailplanes with the Charles River Radio Controllers in Sudbury. Dick was a strong advocate for the hobby, and a tireless spokesman at the flying field, where he regularly engaged with spectators. His infectious enthusiasm was impossible to ignore, and he was responsible for numerous folks entering the hobby over the years. He will be sorely missed.
