Dear Margaret and family,
We are so sorry to hear about Richard's passing. His life's journey sounded very full and blessed.
We enjoyed our visit with Richard at Gery and Sharon's Christmas gathering at the Mayfield Golf Course.
Sorry to have missed the funeral, as we were away.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Deborah and Danny Hurley

It is many years since we, at Robertson-Wesley church, had the presence of the Yuen family in our midst. Yet for some of us who had the pleasure of knowing you, learning of Richard's passing touches our hearts. We pray the comfort which comes from above will sustain and support you through these difficult days and in the days to come. We will all miss him.

Dear Auntie Margaret, Lance, Chris, Todd and Mitch,
Sorry that we could not be with you in Edmonton to mourn Uncle Richard's passing. We are thinking of you and about the strong family ties we all share. We'll dearly miss Uncle Richard and what he brought all of us, and also what he taught us as we were growing up. We may be separated by distance but the common stories we share is what makes us family. Uncle Richard was able to help me recently with researching part of our family history in relation to a documentary I'm producing on Chinese Canadian war vets and the Ho Lem side. I am very grateful for his contributions during the conversations we had together.
Love,
Brad and Eleanor

I've always thought highly of Uncle Richard. His experience in Nigeria inspires others to be a humanitarian and globe-trotter like him. He will definitely be missed.

When a person is eleven years old it is difficult to realize that not only are you living life, but many that you will meet your life will be very influential in that life. One of those amazing people was Richard Yuen, or “Mr Yuen” as we called him, my grade 5 teacher at Allendale Elementary School in 1962. Many years have passed but some of the highlights of that year are just as clear as if they happened yesterday. My jaw dropped when he sat down at the piano and played. He was just a young man himself with a superb grasp of music. He conducted us in singing Christmas carols, even though we giggled when he gave voice…we'd never heard a well-trained singer before! One day he intrigued us with his tape recording machine. He asked us to sing very slowly as he ran the machine at slow speed. When he played the recording back….we became “The Chipmunks”! That event introduced me to sound recording, and all things technical which grew from a fascination, to a study, into a career. All thanks to Mr Yuen's ability to engage us with his knowledge. But he didn't stop there. He challenged me in chemistry, at a time when virtually all little boys were intrigued by things chemical. Our class experiments were fun, and he liked to answer many of our crazy questions. His great sense of humour and teaching talents made it seem like the year of school was more fun than it really was supposed to be. Mr Yuen was a great person that will forever live in my memory.
