Richard Zahn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2024.
Richard Anthony Zahn, affectionately known as Rich, passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 88 in Miami, FL. Born on January 12, 1936, in Queens, NY, Rich dedicated several years of his life serving in the Army, where his commitment and resilience were emblematic of his strong character.

Following his distinguished military service, Rich embarked on a civilian career as a Teamster truck driver in NYC, a role he performed with dedication and pride until his retirement. Rich's work ethic and reliability made him a respected figure among his colleagues and within the broader community.

Rich was a man of many interests but particularly enjoyed scratch-offs, singing, and was a lover of food in all of its forms. His melodious voice and cheerful tunes brought joy to all those around him. He could always be seen singing along to his favorite movie, The Sound of Music.

Rich is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Alicia; daughter Elizabeth and her husband Andrew; son Jeffrey and his wife Nerhys; and his cherished grandchildren, Brandon and Angelina, who were the light of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adelaide and Arthur, and his brothers, Arthur and Robert.

The funeral services are being handled by St Charles/Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale NY, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Rich's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as a devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a joyful singer. His passing is a great loss to the community and he will be sorely missed. Goodbye Rich. May you bloom and grow forever in heaven.

WOW there are so many. Uncle Richie was the baby of three brothers - Arthur, Robert and Richie. He was affectionately known by his three (3) nephews from his older brother Arthur as "The Kid". The endless games of touch football (he had quite the arm), baseball. stick ball and the many, many early morning (5am) fishing trips on the wooden boat out of Port Jefferson to buoy 11 and then clamming with our feet on the way back in to the harbor on the sandbars to have an awesome BBQ "fish fry" later on in the day. Glad he is with Father, his Father, Mother, Brothers, cousin Johnny and all their uncles. He is blessed and truly happy! God Bless:)
