I was fortunate to converse with Richie by mail several years ago regarding the ashes seriesthat England eventually won when Bret was unfortunate to lose hs wicket at the climax of the test match. Richie responded to my letter in writing and suggested that this 2005 series was the closest and most exciting series he had ever witnessed. Thanks for taking the time to reply Mr benaud, I was thrilled that you had taken Time to write back to me with your views on that particular ashes series. God bless & R.I.P. You are missed already.

Celebrating a life well lived, you will cherish the memories forever. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Psalms 62:8 mentions, "God is a refuge for us, pour out your hearts at all times". I hope you are able to find some comfort now and in the days to come.

On Sunday I happened to be sitting near a family with a young son of about 10 years old. The boy's parents were chatting over a cup of coffee. The Dad had a bundle of the weekend papers next to him on the table. After a few minutes of not paying much attention to his parents' chatter, their young son piped up - "Hey Dad, can I have a look at the papers. I want to see what they're saying about Richie." Dad handed over the papers and the boy went straight to the SMH wrap around. He then appeared to read the whole section - every word, on every page. Now that goes to show, yet again, that Richie certainly was someone who reached across so many generations. Marvellous. All thoughts with the Benaud family for the sad loss of someone who was - and always will be - so dear to them.

Whilst expected news I was deeply saddened to hear this announcement this morning. The cricketing world help Ritchie in the highest esteem, and rightly so. Men like Ritchie are rare gems, and we must preserve his values in the future of cricket which is struggling at times to keep to his high standards
