Richie Roberts

Richie Roberts, 79, of Marion, died at 7:00 a.m. Wed., Nov. 26, 2008, at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. He was born in Richlands, Va., on Jan. 18, 1929. Mr. Roberts was a retired coal miner, retired from West Point Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., a Kentucky Colonel and volunteer firefighter for Ft. Montgomery Fire Department in N.Y. Surviving are seven children: Ritchie "Steve" (Becky) Roberts, Jimmy (Gail) Roberts, Annetta (Rick) Nelson, Donna (Gary) Rushing, Bonnie (David) Rushing, James "Skipper" (Tammy) Roberts and Rocky (Amy) Roberts, all of Marion, Ky. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Clyde and Larry Roberts of Richlands, Va.; and sisters, Lori Tolliver and Lillie Horton of Richlands, Va. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Floyd and Eliza Ellen Roberts; wives, Meddie Jean Brannam Roberts and Dorothy Jean Sutton Roberts; son, Ricky Ray Roberts; one grandchild and 5 great grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Sat., Nov. 29, 2008, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, Ky., with Bro. Jim Wring officiating. Interment followed in Freedom Cemetery. The family received visitors from 5-9 p.m. Fri., Nov. 28, at the funeral home.
