Rickey "Rick" Lee Smith passed away in Jamaica Beach, TX on August 22, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born in Wichita, KS on April 30, 1943 to Chester and Maxine Smith. Rick's Wichita North High spirit never faded after he graduated in 1961. He also attended Friends University and Wichita State University. He married his high school sweetheart Dixie (Weir) and spent his career thoroughly enjoying sales. Rick is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Dixie, sister Terry (Daryl), daughters Mandy Vanderhoof-Fogle (Ron) and Cindy Thome (John), grandchildren Jeffrey (Aubry), Joseph (Alyssa), Nicole (Grant), John, Tyler, Anna (Christopher), Sabrina (Gabriel), Shane, Dustin, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family is not requesting any flowers, gifts, or other memorabilia.

I will always hold the memories we had together in my heart, from grandpa letting me drive his lawn mower around when I was a kid, having slide shows when we visited, sitting around the fire with all the family get togethers, to going to Riverside Cafe with him. He loved photography and enjoyed the simple things of life. He was a great man and he will be missed and never forgotten.

I still hold close the memories of time spent with Rick and Nicole at The Perk coffeehouse. Those moments feel like they happened just yesterday. After Rick enjoyed his favorite slice of pie, we´d set off to explore some of the most beautiful and uniquely charming homes around. Looking back, I think Rick may have unknowingly sparked something in me-a quiet appreciation for houses and the stories they hold-long before I realized how much I´d come to love them.
I´m truly grateful to Rick for sharing his time, introducing me to the art and character of Wichita, and reminding me that pie is always a good way to start an adventure. Thank you, Rick, for those and many other memories we got to share.

So sorry to hear of Rick's passing. Prayers of comfort and support during this time of grief. He had lots of stories and was helpful with photos of Jennifer's wedding.
