Ricky Nelson, "Poppy", cherished husband, father, and grandfather passed away on June 21, 2024 at the age of 64. After having fought a valiant battle with cancer, he left this world peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Bonneau, SC

Ricky was born September 7, 1959 in Awendaw, SC to the late Joyce and Hiram Hodge. Growing up with three sisters and one brother, he developed a strong sense of family and a passion for helping others.

On May 13, 2017 Ricky married his love, Patti Nelson. Their love story spanned over a decade marked by deep affection, mutual respect, countless memories, and immense joy from their blended family. He was a proud grandfather to a joyous twenty grandchildren. He enjoyed boating, fishing, building just about anything, and spending time with his family and friends. Ricky was adored by all who knew him with a deep appreciation for his humor and ability to light a room with his jokes.

Ricky is preceded in death by his parents. 

Ricky is survived by his beloved wife, Patti Nelson; his children, Teresa Looker (Richard), Kayce Nelson (Chad), Johnny Scott (April), Brittany Potts (Jason), Ashley Ward (Brandon), and Royce Scott; his grandchildren, Cameron, Natalia, Mackenzie, KJ, Braylon, Bailey, Damien, Kaiden, Maddox, Cayden, Grayson, Jackson, Skylar, Bryson, Jade, Jameson, Amelia, Johnny, Abel, and Waylon; his sisters, Rachael Curry, Victoria Rentz (John), and Joy Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ricky's life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1:00pm with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445. 

Ricky's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
