I met Riley in 9th grade at Spaulding Jr High in Forestville MD. We both had Dads in the USAF at Andrews AFB. Riley was even then... tall, blond, handsome, a great swimmer, and outgoing. I was the shy skinny new kid, but he brought me into his fold. We both loved airplanes... and guess what, we met again when we were both freshman at the Air Force Academy. We chummed around for four years and crossed paths in the military. Riley was always outgoing, even keeled in the most difficult times, and classy. The nation and his family are worse off with out his presence. God Bless, the good die young!

Wow, so sorry for your loss. I too am blessed to have known Riley at the Zoo.
He was a fellow adventurer, for sure. A Toast to the Host, here, here, for Riley.

To Cindy, Eve and Lee,
I wish so that I could be at Riley's memorial service to hear of his wonderful life. He was such a dear man and will always be my "favorite pilot." I will miss sending him the occasional pilot joke that I would get and he would always respond.
I know you will miss him terribly, but his spirit will always be in your hearts, as he will be in mine, also. Time will never completely erase or heal his life with you and particularly his sudden void in your lives. There are so many years you should have had with him, but now can only live with his memory, of which there are many.
I'm sure you know how much you were all loved by John & I and I shed tears of love for all of you as I write this.
Peace and memories stay with you always.
Love and many UU hugs,
Mary Shirley

There are no words to describe what all of you are going through. I love Riley. He had a way of making you feel good no matter how you felt at that moment. I love you all and know that my thought are with you.

"He put the good of the whole ahead of himself and lived in a way that ensured all felt loved in his presence." So very true. Sending hugs from Maryland to Riley's family.

Greenville Chautauqua's heart goes out to you. We know what a great lover of history Riley was. He will be missed from our audience, but we know he is on to another astonishing journey.
