RITA DeMAJISTRE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 21 to Jan. 22, 2018.
DeMAJISTRE RITA
Age 96, died on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Juniper Village in Forest Hills. She resided for many years at University Square 2 in Oakland, where she had an array of cherished friends. Rita was the mother of loving children, Robert of Lewes, Delaware and of Fertilia, Sardinia, Italy, Suzanne M. Rini of Pittsburgh and the late Michael and David DeMajistre, who preceded her in death, as did her husband, Michael R. DeMajistre. She will be missed and remembered by her six grandchildren, Robert and John Eric DeMajistre, Allison DeMajistre, Angela Hay, Matthew and Carlos McClintock and Monica Zubik; as well as her ten great- grandchildren. Born in 1921 on All Saints Day to Josephine and Matthew Barone, Rita was raised in Lawrenceville. She trained to become a legal stenographer. In later life, she was a legal secretary for Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, and at American Arbitration. Rita also very much enjoyed volunteering at the Pittsburgh Diocesan Archives. An avid reader, Rita especially valued the riches of Carnegie Library of Oakland. Her acumen as a wordsmith who daily solved the word puzzles in the Post-Gazette was admired by family and friends. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Monday from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of Rita's soul will be held at St. Paul Cathedral on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Donations will be appreciatively sent to one of Rita's favorite charities, the Salesian Missionaries of Don Bosco, 2 LeFevre Lane, New Rochelle, NY 10801-5710.

Thinking of both Rita and my son as both of the anniversaries of their death approaches. It will be 27 years since my son died on January 19, and 2 years since my dear friend, Rita, also died on that date. I often thing of Rita as I drive to a new dance that is right by Juniper. I miss both of them so very much!

Even though I met Rita at a wedding many years ago, it was actually because of my sister, Jeannie, being her best friend, that I had the opportunity to hang out with her for last six years. I introduced her to a couple of my other elderly friends and I loved seeing them interact and share stories. Wisdom, a sense of humor, intelligence, a strong faith, and endurance is what I see in most of the elderly, especially Rita. She would answer the phone "What's the scoop?" People would come up to her and say how cute she was, and she really enjoyed talking to them. When she found out that Cervelli (Pittsburgh Pirate's catcher, at the time) frequented a restaurant that we often went to, she was so excited and told the owner to call her the next time that he was there. I will miss Rita so very much, but her memory will be in my heart forever!

Rita was my dearest friend for 35 years. Having met while working at a law firm, we immediately bonded and unknowingly had many connections. I will always remember Rita as an intelligent, generous, caring soul who loved her family. She was a born nurturer who took care of many people who were ill and hurting. I am confident that she earned her angel wings! She will live in my heart forever.
