DEVINE RITA DEVINE From Brooklyn, NY, Rita Devine, the daughter of James "Jimmy" and Loretta "Chic" Kiernan, died peacefully at the age of 98 on June 25, 2013 at Sunrise of Fair Oaks, VA. Her father was an alderman of New York City during prohibition. We loved our Mother very much and are a very close family, even across the miles. She signed all cards with: "I love you 80 million, Forever and 3 days!" Rita Devine was #1 Real Estate sales person in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area for many years and retired at 79 in 1994. She had a great memory. She had four children. John, her eldest son, named Geoffrey Giraffe (Toys"R"Us) and Brian her second son is Chairman of Petco; both live in San Diego area, CA. Rita Marie, her only daughter, third child, lives with her husband Ben (Green Tree Ministries) in Rixeyville, VA. Terry, her youngest son, lived with our Mom for over 10 years in her home in Chevy Chase MD. Until the end, her memory was intact; her great sense of humor kept reminding us of her American Irish upbringing! Pre-deceased by her parents and beloved sister Muriel (George) Colligan, she is survived by her dear brother James F. (Katherine) Kiernan family in Pompano Bay FL. Rita was the beloved wife of the late William John "Jack" Devine and the late Walter C. Oehrke; mother of W. John Devine Jr. (Jan Gallagher), Brian Kiernan (Silvija K.) Devine, Rita Marie Devine (Benjamin) Grace, and Terence Michael Devine; grandmother of Brian K. Devine Jr. (Suzanne Hasz) William J. "Jack" (Jenn) Devine III; Angela (Aaron) White; A. Tyler Devine (Matthew) Morocco; Brooke K. Devine; Gregory Grace (Mairi Matrov); (Kevin Fitzpatrick Grace, who died in 1973); Mario (Janet) Grace; Stefano Grace; Julianna S. Devine; Liam J. Devine; great-grandmother of Brian Jr.'s: Nathan Alexander, Brian K. "Ian" Devine III, Madeline F. Devine; Jack's family: Walker J. Devine, Miles J. Devine; Angela's: Benjamin White, Aaron White Jr., Isaac White; Tyler's: Dominic Morocco; Gregory's: Laura Grace, Nora Grace; Mario's: Emily Grace, Ethan Grace; Stefano's: Massimo Grace. Rita also is survived by Devine family patriarch: Father Richard "Dick" Devine; daughter's Godfather George (Jane) Devine; daughter's Godmother Joan Meyers; S. Ann Devine Burns and family; Gert (Kristi) Tiivas and family in Estonia; and all the Devine and Kiernan cousins in America and Ireland. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac MD on Thursday, July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, July 26 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy on Friday, July 26 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Potomac, MD.
