John Myers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2016.
Myers, John A.

John A. "Jack" Myers, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 7, 2016. He was born January 27, 1933 in Marquette, Michigan to John and Florence (Johnson) Myers.

John spent his early life in Marquette, graduating from high school there in 1950. He served as a medical corpsman with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Returning the Marquette area, he worked as a fireman on the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad while attending Northern Michigan University. John was united in marriage to Eleanor A. Kasiska on November, 19, 1955, at St. John's Catholic Church in Marquette. While living in Marquette he was a ski jumping enthusiast and a member of the Ishpeming Ski Jumping Club.

After graduation, John taught at NMU before moving to Sun Prairie, Wis. when he began employment with the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare as a contract negotiator. He and Eleanor later moved to St. Paul, Minn. where he worked briefly as a negotiation consultant prior to being named a Commissioner with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. He first worked in the Federal Mediation office in Milwaukee, residing in Waukesha, and in 1976, moved to Green Bay, working from that office until his retirement. John and Eleanor moved to Marinette in 2002 and were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Eleanor preceded him in death on May 9, 2014.

John is survived by three children, Lance (Debra) Myers of Green Bay, Lori (Tim) Duquaine of Marinette and Yvette (Michael) McCaughn of Eloy, Ariz.; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Martin (Edna) Kasiska of Shelby Township, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; his parents; and a brother, Arthur Myers.

Friends may call at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1600 University Dr., Marinette, on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 9 until 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Wendt officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Rest in Peace, Jack, we first met at 5 years of age. We lived next door. Jack and the neighborhood "gang" shared many memories as young people. We continued to be friends into adulthood. Charlene and Eleanor were classmates. Our condolences to the family.
