Rita Marie Prescott

After a long and beautiful life, Rita Marie Prescott of Saco, Maine passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21st. She celebrated her 91st birthday in August.

Rita was born in 1931 to the late Pierre and Alvina LaPlante. She grew up in a devout Roman Catholic family as one of the youngest of 15 children. She cherished her brothers and sisters, often sharing adolescent and Catholic school adventures with her family.

When she graduated high school, Rita followed her passion and studied to become a registered nurse. During her studies, she met the love of her life, Gordon Prescott. Their love story was written in the stars, as he was famously said to be taking another woman out on a date the night they met. Rita and Gordon were married and later moved to Cape Elizabeth, Maine, where they grew their family and started a local business, Prescott Pharmacy.

Rita was an amazing woman. She cared deeply for her family, loved a glass of white wine and game of cards with friends, found fun on the slopes near 'the chalet', on the shores of Maine, and traveling the world, enjoyed a quick round of 9, drove a hard bargain, and was an amazing storyteller with a quick wit. Rita was the heart of the Prescott family - keeping together the bonds of her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren throughout her life. They have many fond memories of visiting her house in Saco, enjoying lobster by the river, and making memories together to last a lifetime.

Unfortunately, the last years of her life were challenging. Rita suffered from advanced dementia, which often impaired her ability to remember all of the wonderful people who surrounded her. Despite those challenges, Rita never lost her faith in God. She prayed constantly for her family and friends, and for the peace she has now found in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon Prescott. She is survived by her son Paul Prescott, and his wife Kathryn Prescott, her son Peter Prescott, and his wife Linda Prescott, her daughter Ann Gregerson, and her husband Robert Gregerson, and her son Phil Prescott, and his wife Kim Prescott. She leaves behind nine grandchildren Sean Prescott, Christopher Prescott, Samantha Sperry, Aaron Prescott, Nicole Gable, Shannon St. Angelo, Parker Prescott, Carter Prescott, and Loren Prescott. Rita was a great grandmother to Sadie Sperry, Cameron and Connor Prescott, Gordon and Henry Prescott, and Paige and Halle Gable, who brought her so much joy in the last years of her life. She is also survived by her dear sister Lucienne LaPlante, many nieces and nephews, and close friends. She was loved by all and their time with her will be forever cherished.

Rita will be inurned next to her husband Gordon Prescott at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine. A celebration of life mass will be announced and held at a future date.
