RITA ROONEY

ROONEY, Rita Passed away suddenly on December 1, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Laurence A. Conway and her beloved son, Alex Conway. She is also survived by her parents Daniel M. and Patricia Rooney of Pittsburgh, sisters Patricia Gerrero and Mary Duffy Rooney of Pittsburgh, Joan Clancy of Westboro, MA, brothers Arthur Rooney and James Rooney of Pittsburgh, brother Daniel of North Carolina, and brother John of New York. She was predeceased by her sister Kathleen. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother in law, Alexandra Conway of Waltham and sisters in law Jane Conway Caspe of Waltham and Katrine Doyle Arena of Marlborough, MA. Rita was a member Brown University class of 1980 and was graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. She received her law degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1983 with membership in the Order of the Coif. She practiced patent law at Eckert Seamans in Pittsburgh, Arthur Cox in Dublin, Ireland and Cesari and Mckenna in Boston. She was highly regarded in the field of intellectual property. Most recently, and in pursuit of her lifelong desire to help others and to affirm her Catholic faith, she entered in to the Masters program in Divinity at Boston College. She also became the Director of Faith Formation at St. Elizabeth's Church in her home town of Milton. For many years Rita had taught CCD there. Rita was an experienced private pilot and enjoyed flying with her beloved father. She was very active at Milton Academy where Alex was educated. She was past president of the Milton Academy Parent's Association. She was a member of Wollaston golf club in Milton. What she enjoyed most was caring and mentoring others. She mentored women who were interested in careers in science and technology at Brown University. Every Saturday morning she volunteered at St. Anthony's Shrine in Boston preparing and giving out food to the poor. She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to have walked along the path of life with her. Throughout her life many would remark that she was the nicest person that they had ever met. She will remembered fondly by all the children whom she taught religious education at St. Elizabeth's. A Memorial Mass will be said in her remembrance at St. Elizabeth's Church at 10 AM December 15th.
