I am so sad to see this obit of Rita, i was not aware that she had passed. I worked with her for many years at the post office. She was always loving and kind and friendly to everyone. I lost touch with her when I moved to another office. But I am not surprised by all the kind words spoken of her here. She was definitely an angel on earth, and now an angel in Heaven.

I was and still saddened knowing that we will never meet again on Earth, but I guess you are in a much better place now. I still remember your gentle smiles, loving heart, and delicious meals. I have always loved Angela for her kindness and wonderful personality, probably the most special person I have met in the US, and I found out a bit of the reason why the first time I met you. I have always felt accepted for who I am and always felt being so welcomed in your home and kitchen. You are and will always be the special mama Rita in my heart. I love you and my thoughts are with you and the Thomas family in this difficult time.

Rita and I moved here about the same time and became friends, my Bingo buddy etc.. That night we said our goodnight to meet again for our morning chat. When she was not there went to breakfast when reception caught me and told me the news. I was and still saddened by her passing. She was liked by all and missed. My heart goes out to her family and dear grandchildren, so loved, hard to understand this concept for little ones I am sure.
Until we meet again.........

My fond memories of Rita begin in late grade school. In the summers I would often bicycle to her house to visit in the afternoon. There was always a lot to do with her siblings and other neighbor kids. Each day would be different. There were four younger brothers and sisters, an active kitchen and a full basement and yard filled with play opportunities. Everyone was welcomed to participate or just be in the mix. At a very young age Rita was not just a kid, she was a willing and happy caregiver. She loved being with her family and friends. I admired her gentle manner and intuitive skill blending need with recreation. I knew she was destined to be a great mom. Grade through high school Rita was an accepting and reliable friend. Whatever the teen drama of the day Rita offered a calm quiet presence and a warm smile that said everything's going to be OK.

I new Rita as I new all the Cocciolone's growing up in Madison Heights through John. I do remember Rita's green gremlin.
