Robert Anthony Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 23, 2012.
LONGVIEW — Robert L. Anthony passed away January 20, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born November 6, 1922, in Maryville, Tennessee, to John and Lennie Anthony.
He is survived by his wonderful, caring wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Anthony; a son, Clark and Vicki Anthony of Longview; a daughter, Gwyn and Roger Boisvert of Longview; and a son, Rob and Susan Anthony of Carthage.
He was a loving, caring Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He went to school in Walland, Tennessee, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Maryville, Tennessee. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theater from 1942-45.
He relocated to Longview in 1950 for a job at Texas Eastman and retired in 1983 after almost 34 years of service. He continued to stay active as a builder with Anthony Builders and with his favorite past time of fox hunting. He enjoyed running his hound dogs, growing a big garden and sharing it with others and spending time with his family. He valued his annual trips to his hometown of Maryville, Tennessee, where he and Elizabeth built a summer home to spend time with family and longtime friends.
He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will remember him as a teacher. Just as he enjoyed cultivating his garden, he also enjoyed cultivating the lives of his family, and as he shared his garden with others, he also shared his most special fruits with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lennie Anthony; and his siblings, Lillian Gillespie, Fred Anthony, William Anthony, Frankie Willocks and Mayme Abbott, all of Maryville, Tennessee. He was also preceded in death by his beloved baby daughter, Melinda Anthony Hagler of Longview, Texas.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, with Dale Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Elderville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.
