ROBERT JOHN BABCOCK, JR.

3/31/1967 - 3/28/2025

Robert John Babcock, Jr., 57, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Vero Beach, Florida. Born on March 31, 1967 in Hartford , CT. Only son of the late Robert John, Sr. and Margaret (Kelly) Babcock, he was a native of Connecticut living most of his life in Windsor. Rob was a proud graduate of the class of 1985, Windsor High School.

For many years Rob was a self-employed roofer, mostly working for and alongside his good friend Don Gleason.

Known for his hands-on skills and mechanical know-how, Rob was an avid car mechanic who enjoyed car racing as well as fixing them.

Rob's greatest pride was being a father to his only son Drew Robert who he was blessed with in March of 1994.

Rob passed on to Drew not only his practical skills but also the values of independence and resilience. He enjoyed watching his son grow into the capable man he is today and who now, through Rob's influence, lives on in the life he helped shape.

Raised by his English-born mother Margaret Irene and father Robert John Sr. Rob was surrounded by love & guidance. With manners and grace that his mother instilled in him Rob grew up the ever gentleman many knew him to be. Having four devoted sisters-Cheryl, Jeannie, Margaret "Kelly" and Sarah-he was cherished and adored as the beloved little brother.

Rob shared a deep bond with Karin Traska the mother of his son and former long-time partner. Their relationship evolved over time and eventually came to end peacefully. Rob and Karin's friendship never ended for it always endured and always remained strong.

Outside of work and family life Rob found joy in simple pleasures. His favorite was to deep sea fish with the Capt, his great friend and Drews godfather Jim Fusco. In addition to fishing, he found laughter and camaraderie at 'Jacks' home either watching 'the races' on TV or working in the garage under the hood of many cars.

Rob found sobriety almost 11 years ago. He was a man determined and he did it. Shortly afterwards he moved and met his beautiful friend Bev in Vero Beach FL. They spent his last years together peacefully with sunshine and happiness. Bev was there for him in his time of need and everyday until the end.

Rob was predeceased by his mother and father, sisters Sarah and Margaret 'Kelly', and his good friend and brother-in-law Brian. He leaves behind his son Drew, his sisters Jeannie and Cheryl, loving friends Karin & Bev and his nieces and nephews Eric, Joey, Danielle, Amy, Nicole, Thomas Robert 'TR' and Jordan.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday April 26, 6pm at The Shed Bar & Cafe located on Poquonock Avenue in Windsor. Please join Drew, Karin, and Jeannie as they toast Rob Babcock-affectionately known as "Poohba," or "Beeve". Come share stories over food prepared by Mike Sandemena and a full cash bar.
