In the Army, at Charlie Battery, Daenner Kaserne, Kaiserslautern, Germany, fellow soldiers referred to Rob as "Big Bird". Everyone loved the Bird, and Rob served as the glue that held so many of us together on the phone, in visits and on Facebook to this day. Simply said: Rob truly belonged to that sliver of the population that has a golden touch and is nothing less than amazing. Our last phone call together was in August, and Rob's call turned a 'down' day into a bright one. I wish I had known, brother. Thanks for your spiritual and intellectual guidance, and the good laughs. God bless you, Bakers. And thanks for sharing your husband, dad, brother and son with the rest of us. The soldiers positively influenced by Big Bird are too many to mention here. Fondly, Jay Cook, Staff Sergeant (RET) US Army

Dear Baker Family,
My wife Rachel and I had the pleasure of meeting Rob in Brussels while we were living here short term as students. When we arrived in Brussels we didn't know anyone in Belgium but Rob was very kind to and introduced himself to us first thing at church and took us out to eat on multiple occasions. He was a good friend to us here and we looked forward to going out with him every few weeks when he arrived. Rob was also very generous towards the missionaries and watched out for them- they asked us to add their condolences as well. We are grateful to have known Rob and for the kindness that he showed to us in the short time that we were friends. We are deeply sorry for your loss, God bless you.

Rob was and is such a fun and uplifting guy. I have such fond memories working with him in Boy Scout Troop 356 in the Greenwood Ward. All of our Scouts loved Rob and so did all of us adult leaders. Rob has taken the ultimate High Adventure trip ahead of us and we will miss him greatly. Jill, we know you and the kids will miss him more than any of us. Our hearts go out to you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Baker Family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Rob's passing. I only worked with Rob for a short time at UCB. I first came to learn about his love for his family early one morning when we were both locked out of the building in Smyrna at 6 am! It was that morning where I gained much admiration and respect for such a wonderful man.
I send you all my love, thoughts and prayers. Rob will always be close to my heart.

Dear Jill and Family,
I am very saddened by the news of Robert's passing. He and I worked together at Lilly years ago and when I moved to San Diego we developed an ongoing friendship and stayed in contact over the years when he went to Amgen. He was one smart cookie and I was always amazed at how hard he worked, even teaching classes, and taking time from a very busy schedule to teach an old man how to surf.
No doubt he is in God's arms now but he will be missed by many!
I pray for all of you that your memories of the good times with Robert give you peace and comfort.
God bless you all,
John Kaiser

I just want you to know how much Rob means to Kevin and our family. It is thru the dedication of scout leaders and priesthood leaders like Rob that young men grow up to be successful productive members of society. Kevin's path has been rocky but he is finally finding his way. I know it is because Rob and a few others in our ward took the time to mentor him and provide an example for him that he is able to function in a world that makes so little sense to him. I am greatful that he was part of our lives and wish you and your family peace in this difficult time. Carolyn and Kevin Swan

I had the pleasure of working with Rob at UCB recently this year. While we only knew each other for a short time, his passing has left an impact on me that is hard to put into words. He had a comfortable and caring way with people, even through stressful situations. I regret not having more time to get to know him better.

Rob, I'm saddened by your departure, but I'm fortunate that I got to know you. I won't forget our road trip from Ghent to Frankfurt (thanks for doing the driving). During our time behind the wheel, I learned about your family and life experiences. You're a good man and will be missed by many.
To Jill and family, I am sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences.

Jill I am so so sorry!! I was completely shocked to hear about Rob. I still can't believe it. I was just telling my sister a few days ago how much fun I had whenever we had a meeting at your house. And how Jeff and I talked about the different things Precision Bldrs had to do inside your home to make everything more convenient and workable. Jeff was very fond of You, Rob and your family. I like to think Jeff & Rob are giving each other great big bear hugs right now. I'm so sorry I didn't take the time to drive up to Georgia and visit with all of you. My heart is just breaking for You and your family. You two were definitely a perfect match, and I will miss Rob greatly.

I was very saddened to hear of Rob's passing. My heart aches for Jill and their family. Rob was a role model for the all of the men and boys of our Ward; dedicated to his family and serving others. Stacy and I pray that the Lord will comfort you, and that the knowledge that you will all be with Rob again will sustain you during this difficult time. We love you.

I had the pleasure of working with Rob both at Allergan and UCB. He was such a great guy, and he was absolutely fantastic to work with. He would often share stories about his family and he would just light up when he talked about his children, he was so proud them. Rob, you left us too soon my friend, you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Rob,
I was your personal assistant at UCB for the last 10 months. I learned to know you as a great, respectful man always doing everything possible to help others, so grateful for everything (even if I was just doing my job). You were so happy when you could do something in return. You were also a great family man, so proud to tell me about Jill and your children. I will miss your stories about your experiences all over the world.
I'm so grateful that we had the chance to spent so much time in Amsterdam during the team meeting and just before I had to leave for surgery.
All my thoughts are now with your entire family, I wish them all the strength to continue without you. You'll be missed by all the persons who knew you, that's for sure.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Baker family during this challenging time. His wife and children were the center of his life - and he lived to talk about them and share his stories of engaging with them 1:1 and in groups with friends and family. When we worked together at Amgen, he called me one evening to say he would miss a work meeting the next day as he and his daughter just got passes to climb Mt. Whitney. What beautiful memories she will always cherish of that last minute trip. His priorities and his heart were always in the right place. God be with you until we meet again.

Robert influenced me in many ways. He taught me to spit shine my shoes. He was always smiling and taking care of those around him. I remember most his infectious energy and enthusiasm for life.
I know he will be reunited with his family and friends in the eternities, and although we ache without him, we can be made whole through our belief and faith in the Savior of mankind. I will remember his smile.

Jill,
I will always remember Rob as a giant among men. He showed great kindness to me while we labored together as missionaries for the LDS church many years ago. I'm so glad he was crazy enough to run and compete in events that brought him to St George. I really enjoyed seeing him and refreshing our relationship every so often. I will miss him.
Thank you for sharing his life with me - I'm grateful for the lessons he taught me.
Only my best to you and yours during this time, and always.

I will always remember Rob and I offer my sincere condolences and prayers for all of his family! I was in 12th ward in San Diego with him and also went to high school with him. Such a gentle giant- physically and spiritually! He was always very caring about others and was a great man and friend! He always talked lovingly about Jill and the kids! I had talked to him on the phone a few months before when my Dad was in the hospital. He asked me how I REALLY was! He wanted to make sure that I was alright. Thats the kind of friend he was! I loved seeing his pics of his travels and his family that he loved so much! I never ever heard an unkind thing come out of his mouth! RIP Robert until we meet again!

My deepest condolences to Rob's family. I was so saddened to hear the news about Rob. I've worked with Rob on and off over the past 15 years - first sitting in the cubicle next to him at Lilly and most recently working with him at Amgen. He was so fun and positive; you could always count on him for a funny comment or joke.
It was clear how much he loved all of his family. I wish you the best in coping with this tragic loss.

I am in shock regarding this news. Jill, I am so sorry for what happened. Rob was and is such a wonderful person. He always had such a positive attitude and was always willing to help others. One Christmas my parents were out of the country and I was invited to spend the holiday at Robert's in-laws home in San Diego. Robert and Jill were there and we had a great time - Robert was a hilarious guy and kept us all entertained with his stories and humor. We went to a Church dance together and had us on the floor laughing with his 1980's moves. And when he heard I didn't know how to surf he arranged to take me and show me the ropes. He was a patient teacher but I wasn't very good. But I appreciated his gesture.
Years later, I was looking for some career guidance and learned Robert was passing through town with his family. I admired him, and asked if he'd be open to meeting and steering me down the right path. He graciously sat with me for an hour and gave me some great advice. Again, he didn't have to do this, but he was just that kind of person - willing to give up some time to help another person.
You could tell that Robert's giving came from a place of happiness and love. I offer my sincere condolences to Robert's family. He was a good man who is much admired and will be missed by all who knew him.
