Robert BANKERT Obituary
Robert Francis Bankert, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2016, surrounded by a roomful of people who loved him. He was born in Queens, NY on April 19, 1927, to Hugo and Beatrice Bankert, and he was a veteran of the United States Army. Bob and his bride of 65 years, Viola, lived briefly in Detroit, MI and Erie, PA, before moving to Palm Beach County in 1958. They raised their two sons in Lantana, and made memories sailing, Scouting, camping, and traveling all over the United States. In 1993, Bob and Vi retired to Maggie Valley, NC, where they spent more than 20 happy years in their mountain home. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hugo "Bud" Bankert, Jr., and his sister, Beatrice Britt. He is survived by his wife, Vi, his son John Bankert of Newport News, VA, his son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Katrina Bankert of West Palm Beach, and two grandchildren, Lauren Bankert of Jacksonville, FL and Robert B. Bankert of West Palm Beach. There is also a large circle of family and friends who cherish their own special memories of Bob and will feel his loss very deeply. His wife, children, and grandchildren wish to thank his niece, Susan Lowe of Loxahatchee, as well as Hospice of Palm Beach County, for helping care for him in his final days. His family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL, 33409.
