Robert A. Bashaw of Naples, FL passed away on December 21, 2023. Bob was born on November 27, 1925, in Newburyport, MA, the oldest of six children of Robert A. Bashaw and Ellen Lynch Bashaw. When he was 17, he joined the Navy and served during the European invasions of Normandy, Cher Berg, and Le Harve during World War II. In 1945 he met the love of his life, Carolyn Kelly, and they were married in 1947.

Bob worked in construction and started his own business in 1948. He retired in 1988 after 40 years. During that time, they lived In Newbury, MA, and he was active in various civic organizations. Upon retirement, he bought a boat and fished for lobsters for 12 years before selling their property in Maine and moving to Naples, FL, ultimately residing at Bentley Village in 2006. Bob was an active volunteer at Bentley Village.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Carolyn, and his sons, Robert A. Bashaw III of Bandera, TX, and James M. Bashaw of Newburyport, MA. He had 5 grandchildren, Erik Bashaw, Martha Graves, Brett Bashaw, Kevin Bashaw, and Rachel Crue. He also had 5 great-grandchildren, Bryan, Adam and Elena Graves, Jacob, and Jared Crue. He also has two surviving siblings, Joan Garand and Donna Brooks. He is preceded in death by siblings, Anne Mills, Geraldine Colby, and Thomas Bashaw.

Bob's great story-telling ability and infectious laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice.
