Bob was a very kind man. I remember him from the ball park when our son played. But he also came to our greenhouses every spring for many years to buy his flowers. My husband George and I always looked forward to seeing him. I'm sure he will be missed. My condolences to his family.

I realized back in 1979 why they may have called Bob the "Mayor" when i was coming in from the parking lot for Opening Day at Fern Creek Ballpark .It had raining earlier and the fields where muddy and Bob was out on the field i was supposed to play on putting down Kerosene ( he was directing the application) so it could be lit in order to dry out the base path.I knew that man was in charge with the lighter and Pipe.I could go on and on about how dedicated he was to the Park and Community, but that says it all!

Brad and Patti, I am so sorry for your loss. I read of Mr. Beard’s contribution to baseball in the community. I have a great-grandson who is very involved in baseball, and I cannot say enough for those good people who give so much time and effort to makes sports available to young people. I know that over the years he has become a shining memory in many lives, both kids and parents.

Bob was a one of a kind. There was no one I respected across the board more than Bob in my lifetime. The work he has done over the years is incredible, and did it all for his community and especially our youth. The time he spent at Fern Creek Park to me is legendary. If any place needs a name attached to it, it should be that park. As moral and honest as a man could be. The trips to tournaments I took with Henrietta and Bob will always be with me. Her laugh when I'd give Bob a 'shot' was always a highlight. God bless you both, and it goes without saying job well done. My heart goes out to the family. They have lost a special man.
