Captain Robert R. Bechtelheimer, SC, USN, RET., of Rancho San Diego, California, died June 2, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born on May 13, 1932 in Camden, Arkansas, the son of the late Margie and Cletus Bechtelheimer. He was the youngest of three sons. After he graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 1954, he entered the U.S. Navy as a Supply Corps Officer.

He married Dottie Logan in 1966 and they spent the next 18 years at various duty stations until retirement from the Navy in 1983. After 32 years in the service with the rank of Captain, they settled in the San Diego area. While in the Navy he was awarded, a Legion of Merit with a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award for "Exceptional Meritorious Conduct in the Performance of Outstanding Services."After his discharge, he was employed by Rockwell Space Division Credit Union in Downey, CA for 15 years, and retired as its President in 1995.

Bob was a member of the Downey and Ranch San Diego Kiwanis Clubs' where he served a term as president in each club, and he took pride in volunteering throughout the community with many projects. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his wife and many friends. He enjoyed volunteering at the Buick U.S. Open tournament.

He is survived by his wife Dottie and his son Robert Bechtelheimer Jr. (Gay), James David (Kathy), John Charles (Mollie) and daughter Lisa Ann Foster. His grandchildren Trey, James, Robert, Anna, Sean, Zach and Nathan. He also has 5 great grand children. He is preceded in death by his grandchild Cole.

Pending military graveside services and burial will be held at Miramar National Cemetery.
