Just heard of Bob's passing. I was lucky enough to work closely with Bob for a while. We had adjoining offices. In my time he was Revenue's top tax guy, Here's one of many stories. He taught me to write using a simple method. He would review a draft and mark a few places writing "Don't understand this". Of course he knew the subject better than I did. He pushed me to learn how to explain complex issues so someone like the Minister could understand.

Dear Shannon
I only recently heard of Bob's passing. I am very sorry for your loss. Reading the entries in this guest book, he was obviously a gentleman, and very well respected. May memories of Bob in happier and healthier times carry you through your times of grief.

Dear Shannon and family

I recently became aware of Bob' s passing and I would like to express my condolences to you. I knew Bob since the late 1970's while never working directly with him I was aware of the high esteem he was held by his colleagues. He was a fine man and I enjoyed our times together over a beer or 2

My condolences to you on Bob's passing. I was not heavily involved with Bob when I was at CRA, but the little time I worked with him told me I was dealing with a truly intelligent, insightful and considerate executive.

To the Beith Family - To know Bobby; was to know the kindest, most generous, distinguish man I have ever met. He was a man of few words but what he did say was respected. He had a presence about him that made you want to listen, and a willingness to help anyone in need. Bobby had a heart of gold. Keep his memories close to your heart. He will never be far away and he suffers no more.

Forever Loved
RIP Bobby

To the Beith Family: I learned of Bob's passing this morning, and do not want to leave the day without expressing my sympathy and a memory to you. I had quite a few encounters with Bob during my professional life, from the earliest stages as a young tax lawyer almost thirty - five years ago. I always regarded him as one of the leaders in the practice. And he knew that everyone gets up the same way in the morning; even as a young practitioner he extended to me the same respect and courtesy as he would to more experienced tax practitioners whom he had known much longer. His name was, and remains synonymous with good and thoughtful judgment, expressed in a straightforward and considered way, with a self-effacing sense of often sardonic humour and with decency. Just last week, in fact, at a conference to celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the original Canadian Income Tax Act his name was mentioned with these underlying sentiments no doubt in mind by Bill Baker, and everyone in a room full of committed and distinguished public and private servants of the tax law knew what that meant. I have not met or talked with him for many years, but his example has never been any less in my mind and memory, and if I may I wish his family that his memory be strong and enduring for them too. Sincerely, Scott Wilkie
