My family has had a long connection to Rob and his family as my grandparents and Rob's great grandparents were cousins. My grandparents discovered their connection at a church gathering years ago as they discussed where their families had come from! So it was an honor for my parents to attend Rob's investiture ceremonies. Then my mother and his mother became life long friends with Eileen visiting my mother often when she'd come to the Detroit area.
It was certainly sad to hear about Rob's failing health. We pray for Helen's comforting all this time later after his death and the tough decisions that had to be made during that time.

Our family ties go way back, my grandmother was good friends with Rob's grandmother and grandfather, my mother LOVED her visits with Rob's mother Eileen and although my contacts were much less, I got great joy of hearing and reading notes from my mother on her visits with Eileen and how she followed Rob's career. Rob actually lived with my grandmother LeSuer, my mother's mother, while attending Wayne State and mom and grandma enjoyed his company.
Mom and dad made sure to attend his investiture service.

May God bless and keep all of you during this time of deep grief over losing your faithful, wise, and kind husband. I only met him once, but he was a gracious host. Alan and I will be praying for you. A close friend (minister) who lost his father lamented it was like looking out his front window and finding that the mountain he'd always been able to see had vanished. I am sorry for your unrecoverable loss.

How blest this young naïve law school grad, eager to know how to integrate faith and law, to work and learn, for the first six years of his career, at the footstool of the Honorable Robert Holmes Bell, esteemed mentor, colleague, and friend! How blest!

Judge Bell was a lawyer's lawyer and a judge's judge . We shall not see his equal any time soon . I tried many cases in front of him in my 24 years as an AUSA and was always impressed how well he handled the cases and the court room proceedings. Well done thou good and faithful servant . John F. Salan AUSA retired

I served on the Criminal Law Committee with Rob, and he succeeded me as chair when I rotated off the committee in late 2010. He was a wonderful colleague: wise, thoughtful, practice, with a warm sense of humor. He spoke often of his wife, children, and grandchildren. I believe I met his wife at one CLC gathering. I am so sad to hear that he has passed. It makes me feel bad that I have not been better at keeping up with him and others. I do know that I learned from him and my association with him greatly enriched my life. He was a great American. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dear Mrs. Bell and family,
I had the pleasure of visiting with Honorable Judge Bell in his chambers only twice and found him to be very kind and gentle. I have learned about him through Todd Broberg who was fortunate enough to clerk for him. He did many wonderful things for the Kingdom.

I promise to pray daily for you that God will accompany you through the grief of losing Him and bring you into a new chapter of life full of joy!

It is with sadness I write this, but glad that Rob will be beside Jesus. I have so many things that happened in my life that Rob helped me. He was a dear friend who provided guidance, enjoyment, and humor. He and Helen have been in my prayers daily. I will continue praying for the family daily.

Rob Bell was my great neighbor and friend, The heavier the snow storm, the earlier he was out clearing my driveway. We shared many great conversations over beautiful meals prepared and served by his true helpmate Helen, and discussed his Christian faith, and earnest desire to care for families he saw in the court setting. He wanted the best for children and families. He was an appreciative friend to our family and in our neighborhood. WE enjoyed his spotless vehicles and antique car. So many wonderful memories from a man who could make others feel special. Wanda Hendrickson
