Robert Beltram Obituary

Published by Sacramento Bee on Jan. 12, 2011.
Robert (Bobbie) Castillo Beltram, 85 of Grass Valley born September 4, 1925 passed away peacefully at his residence in Grass Valley. After a stroke and long battle with his illness he died December 29, 2010 at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents Sarah and Abe, Sr, brothers Henry, Charlie, Abe-Nicho and sisters Connie & Rosemary, his daughter Deena, first wife Gloria Beltram, and second wife Allie Needhan-Beltram. He is survived by his children Robert (Renee), Tami, Bruce Beltram and Raelene Hunter (George), and his brothers Manuel, Richard Beltram, and sister Rita Salandez (Ruben). Others survived by Bob include his grandchildren Brian, Brad Beltram, Mike Solorio, Kalina Toro, and Chanti Arndt. In 1947 he served in the US Navy reserves. Bob was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion under the training of Max Baer World Champion. Bob coached with Father McAllister at St. Josephs in Sacramento. He retired his boxing career early, but continued his passion for the sport throughout his life. He was a gentle man, but firm in his convictions. His work ethics and compassion for others was unparallel, raising 5 children and nursing his first wife Gloria in her battle with cancer, and his second wife Allie in her final loss to Alzheimer's. As a journeyman machinist by trade, he repaired everything broken. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and retired in the 1980s. After retirement he was never idle, working at his homes, traveled, and was an active member of the Elks Club and Grange. He had a special passion for ballroom dancing, and up until his stroke in 2008 was active in weekly and often daily dances. He loved all his children beyond comparison, as they all brought their own special gifts to his heart. He will be everlasting in ours; we love him and we will all miss him dearly. Memorial Mass at 11:30am on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 235 Chapel St., Grass Valley, CA 95945, followed by a luncheon with family and friends at the Holbrook Hotel. I lived next door. My Father John Stowell was his friend as so was my family. I'm so sorry to learn of his death today. So many years after. I pray for the Beltram family and can never forget them....Dawn M Stowell

I was very pleased to meet and know Robert after first getting to know and appreciate two of his children, Bob and Raelene. His inner strength and good humor were obvious and always made for a pleasant visit. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family and friends. Dean and Carol Ann Stoller

Bob was a Friend and member of our Dancing family. He knew how to love. He loved life and loved to dance. He was always ready to help in any way that he could. We thank his family for allowing us to share his time, He is missed. Myrt & Bob Olson
