Robert Michael Benson

Robert Michael Benson (Bob / Benny), 76, of Jamestown, New York passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 in hospice in Pensacola, Florida with his son by his side.

Bob was born on March 25, 1950 in Jamestown, NY to the late Robert and Mary Ann Riley Benson. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968, where he was a member of the JHS Red Raider baseball team.

Bob was born and raised in Jamestown but throughout his adult life he spent time in both Florida and NY. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a talented carpenter / builder. He was co-owner of American Contracting in Jamestown. Bob loved sports and coached the South Side Blue Devil Midget Football team for several years. He was also very proud to be in attendance to watch his son, Rob play football and hockey as he was growing up.

Bob is survived by his son Rob (Taylor) Benson and grandchildren, Mia and Rhett of Pensacola, Florida, his brother Tom (Sue) Benson of Jamestown and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Debbie Benson (Harold) Andersen in 2022.

In accordance with Bob's wishes, no services will be held.

Because of Bob's love of sports, memorials may be made to the Robert H. Benson Fund, c/o Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. This fund was established in memory of Bob's father who also coached midget football and little league baseball for many years. It provides scholarships and equipment for area players.
