Robert Benvissuto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2025.
Robert Anthony Benvissuto, Jr., age 65, of New Jersey, passed away in the presence of his loving family on September 14th at the Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after a 29-day hospital stay.

Robert is survived by his father, Robert A. Benvissuto, Sr., his daughters, Angela DeMien, Samantha Benvissuto, and Elaina Benvissuto, and his siblings, Linda and husband William Hayden, Stephen Benvissuto, Cheryl-Anne and husband Bruce Sibya, David and wife Amy Benvissuto, and MaryAlice and husband Michael MacLeod. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and his former wives, Anna Suk DeMien and Song Sam Benvissuto. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Alice C. (Wilcox) Benvissuto.

Born on January 26, 1960 in Boston, MA, Robert was raised in Bridgewater, MA and lived a life marked by intellectual depth, dedication to family, and a distinctive sense of humor, which left a lasting impression on those who knew him. After graduating from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in 1978, Robert earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. After college, Robert served with distinction as a Captain in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1982 to 1988 and was awarded two Army Commendation Medals and two Overseas Service Ribbons in recognition of his exemplary performance and commitment to duty.

Robert's academic and military foundation laid the groundwork for a successful professional career in the states of Washington, California, and New Jersey. He held several high-level management positions where he was widely respected for his keen analytical skills and driven leadership. Colleagues admired Robert for his ability to navigate complex challenges with clarity and resolve.

Robert's interests were as varied as they were passionate. In his youth, he enjoyed drawing, playing soccer, and once took center stage portraying Gollum in his high school's production of "The Hobbit," showcasing both creativity and theatrical artistry. Robert loved spending time with his daughters as a theatre hand and a soccer coach. He was an avid Kumdo practitioner, a Korean martial art known as "the way of the sword." Robert shared this passion with his family creating unique and cherished bonds that focused on physical, mental and spiritual strength. Robert's further interests included photography and collectables, pursuits that reflected his intellectual curiosity and eye for detail. Those closest to Robert knew him as a profound thinker with a sharp wit and enduring sense of humor. Those qualities led him into a short foray of stand-up comedy.

Robert was deeply committed to supporting his family and even during difficult times in recent years, he remained steadfast in character and quietly strong. Though geographic miles kept Robert separated, he remained forever close to the hearts of his loved ones and his handsome smile will not be forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to attend Robert's burial ceremony on Monday, September 29th at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater, MA. (Please park at the back of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church parking lot and proceed to the left.) A reception to honor Robert's life will follow at Ben's PourHouse and Grille in Avon, Massachusetts.

Bob was one of those rare people that could avoid political/social arguments without offending anyone involved. His loyalty to the Sigma Nu brotherhood was an example to the rest of us, and my prayers are for his family to enjoy vivid memories long after this initial sad period.

Bob could find something funny in virtually everything, and had the rare skill of avoiding political and socially negative arguments without offending anyone involved. His absolute loyalty to the Sigma Nu brothers was a model for the rest of us. He will be missed and my prayers are for great memories to stay with his family long after this sad period.

I am saddened to learn the news of Robbie´s passing. He was a good friend in high school and a great host during a blizzard weekend at Hampton Sydney college. May he rest in peace and look after those he loved from above.

So sorry Linda and family for your loss. So tough. Anytime I see the name Benvissuto , there is a pull of my heart since it's my mom's side. So thankful after her passing 11 years ago , that I have these connections. So many lost since then too. Another guardian angel. Thoughts and prayers with you all during this very difficult time.
