Robert Bigelow Obituary

HYANNIS - Robert E. Bigelow, of Hyannis, left our world for a new adventure, on May 29, 2007.

He was the son of the late Alfred and Bertha Bigelow. He was predeceased by his brother Mike. He leaves behind to grieve his absence a loving and extended family of seven children, 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He leaves his beloved wife of 30 years Barbara; his son, Mark Bigelow his wife Lillian and their four children Lisa, Brian, Robert and Lindsey; a son, Peter his wife Lynn and their two children Drew and Allie; a daughter, Ellen Sears and her three children Michael, Monica and Denise. Also, a stepdaughter, Sharon Palmiotto her husband John and their two children Johnny and Mary Kate; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Schleicher her husband Jim and their two children Sara and Scott; a stepson, Kenneth Schick; a stepdaughter, Barbara Contreras her husband Jairo and their three children, twins Ryan and Kirsten, and Andy. Also, a great-grandchild, Kyle Schleicher.

Bob attended local schools in Springfield and graduated from Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed at Hamilton-Sunstrand in Windsor Locks, Conn., for 30 years, serving much of that time as engineering manager.

He was a past president of the local Helicopter Society and a past member of the Knights of Columbus in Windsor Locks, Conn. He served on the Windsor Locks Redevelopment Agency and on the Democratic Town Committee. He also served on the Suffield, Conn., Board of Education. He was an upstanding citizen to all those he served.

After retirement, Bob moved to Pelican Bay Golf & Country Club, Daytona Beach, Fla., where he wintered for nearly 20 years and summered on Cape Cod.

Bob enjoyed traveling with his constant companion Barbara, golfing, fishing and working in his yard, where he found much happiness. He was deeply loved and will be missed forever.

Funeral from the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., on Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment is in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.
