Mr. Stanley came into my life at the old Loudoun County Elementary School in 1964 when he was recruiting for the school band. I signed up to get away from 4th grade class for half an hour, but his love of music, and making music, was contagious. I was hooked.
Not only was he a great musician, but a great mentor and role model. He made band class a combination of education, teamwork, comradery and fun. Decades after high school, I was playing in the Charleston SC Community Band. The director at the time earned his music degree at Shenandoah. When he found out I had played at LCHS, he asked which director was running the program when I was there. I replied, Robert Stanley. He smiled, nodded approvingly and said “He was good!”
The unexpected seemed to pop up often in high school, and band class was no exception. One day Mr. Stanley stopped us suddenly in the middle of a piece, quickly excused himself and RAN from the band room. Needless to say we were taken aback. A few minutes later he returned and advised us; “If you don’t get anything else from this class, remember, never eat a potato salad sandwich that sat in the sun all morning!”
Thanks to Mr. Stanley I have played in three community bands and two community orchestras since high school, and never ate a potato salad sandwich that sat in the sun all morning.
From the bottom of my heart, Thank You Mr. Stanley!

Mr Stanley was all about music and teaching his students. He taught me clarinet in 6th grade up to junior band at LCHS. He could pick up any instrument and play it with ease. He was always happy and upbeat and made us all want to be better. My deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Dear Suzanne and Mindi, thinking of you and of course Bob, remembering his upbeat ways and smiles, love to all of you, aloha, Joshua

And this was my last visit with Mr. Stanley in 2021. Still smiling and remembering "all those Davidson sisters who played French horn!"

Mr. Stanley taught us from 5th grade through high school. He taught my brother trumpet, my twin sister clarinet and oboe, and I played flute and was a majorette in his LCHS marching band.
Thank you for your dedication, Mr. Stanley, you touched and made a difference in so many young lives.
We all respected and adored you. RIP. ❤

Mr. Stanley was my first band teacher in elementary school. I still have my flute that he got me and I continued to play all through high school. I have never forgotten his kindness. Rest in peace Mr. Stanley.

I was a former student of Mr. "Bob" Stanley. Later in my life we were able to become friends. Bob was not a music teacher. He was a leader, builder, someone that had the magic to instill the love of music into your soul. He turned an elementary drummer into a 1st Chair Sousaphone (Tuba) player. In my short tenure at Loudoun H.S. I learned to play the Trumpet, Baritone (bass and treble clef). I was able to play in the after school Brass Ensemble group in my freshman year. Bob had a way of making everyone in the band feel important. Although his compliments were not every day he had the way of making everyone feel important. Sometimes he would say "the brass or clarinets blended perfectly". Comments like that made all of us feel good. Well, I went to Valley in my sophomore year and I had to leave Mr. Stanley. I was sad and disappointed to lose the best "Leader" that I ever had. Now, many years later I think of Bob every time I hear a Sousa March.

Bob was a wonderful educator and friend. He had a positive, lasting impact on his students (my husband, for one), and my memories of time spent working with him bring many smiles. My thoughts are with his family.

Mr. Stanley was always one of my favorite teachers at LCHS and I wasn’t even in the band. He was kind and funny and so focused on providing a good education for all students. He was a good friend to my parents (Jim and Inez Peebles) at Leesburg Baptist Church. He will be missed by so many. Sending love and condolences to his family.

I knew Mr Stanley from church and high school. He was well respected in both places. He treated everyone with respect and a smile. As such he had a positive impact on me and all those whose lives he touched. He will be missed.

I first met Bob when he was the Supervisor of Music and Arts and he came to visit my music teachers. He was always pleasant and had a smile on his face. I again ran into Bob as part of a church .breakfast group on Friday mornings at Shenanigan's and eventually became part of the group. I enjoyed seeing and visiting with Bob as well as other members of the group. When he moved to Spring Arbor I would occasionally pick him up on Fridays to go to the breakfast. Since I was born and raised in Roanoke we had much in common. I came to know both his daughters who were so dedicated taking care of their dad. I am saddened by his passing but know he is at peace....he will truly be missed.

Mr. Stanley was a very special person in my childhood! He encouraged my love of music and taught me to play clarinet in the sixth grade. My condolences to Suzanne and Mindy, the other members of his family, and his friends.

I became friends with Bob in the 70’s when we both worked at the school board office on North Street. He always had a smile on his face, was soft spoken and took time to speak. Even after retirement, when I would see him, he remembered my name and we would enjoy catching up. He will be missed by so many. My prayers go out to the family as they go thru these difficult days. May your memories comfort you.

What a wonderful man Mr. Stanley was. He always tried to make me call him Bob but I had too much respect for him to do that. I've know him since the Baptist church was on Wirt St in Leesburg. He worked with me in Middle School and High School while I was in band. Our friendship continued out of school and into my old age now. He is now with his bride and God has another angel. My prayers are with his family. God bless all.
