GREENVILLE — Robert E. Brest, 91, of 51 Plum St., Greenville, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was born on March 31, 1917, in Wheatland, a son of Howard Brest and Edith (Cornthwait) Brest. On March 11, 1963, he married Eleanor McClelland. Bob attended Grace Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a Mercer County and Crawford County dairy farmer for many years. In the 1950s he, along with his sons, hauled milk for area farmers to the Beverly Farms Banquet Dairy in Greenville. He also worked as a craneman for 17 years at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Sharon, retiring in 1978. Bob and his wife spent many years traveling, visiting all 50 states. A motorcycle enthusiast, he owned several bikes over the years. He was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor and loved teasing his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Bob is survived by daughter Gail Carey and her husband, John, of Sheakleyville; three sons, Robert E. Brest and his wife, Gertrude, of Greenville, William E. Brest and his wife, Rose, of Greenville, and Rodney P. Brest and his wife, Beverly, of Meadville; brother James Brest of Mercer; two sisters, Doris Shamrock of Warren, Ohio, and Ruth Anderson of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Brest and Edward Brest; and an infant sister. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Colonial Funeral Home, 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville, where the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery, Greenville. The family requests that donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, 101 Donation Road, Greenville, Pa. 16125. Visitors may sign the online guest book at www.loutzenhiser-jordanfuneralhome.com.
