Robert Aubrey Brooks, Sr.

Robert Aubrey Brooks, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Fla. on Wednesday April 13, 2011. Bob was born in Vidalia, Ga. in 1919 to Alva and Cassie Brooks, the youngest of five children.

Bob married Martha "Angel" Fain, the youngest daughter of Llewellyn Donalson Fain and Louise Clark Fain of Tallahassee, Fla. in 1947. Bob and Angel initially lived in Jacksonville, Fla. and moved to Angel's hometown of Tallahassee in 1952. They raised three children while Bob worked for the City of Tallahassee and the U.S. Post Office. Bob later owned and operated several retail businesses in Tallahassee before he and Angel retired to St. Teresa Beach, Fla. in 2006. Bob's interest's included flying, reading, golf, football, handyman projects, as well as mentoring his children and grandchildren.

Robert is survived by Angel his wife of 63 years who provided loving and strong support for her husband and their family throughout their marriage. He is also survived by son Robert, Jr. and daughter-in-law Linda Fannin Brooks of Tallahassee and their son Tim; daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Fred Pinckney of Atlanta, Ga. and their sons Steven and Andrew; and daughter-in-law Barbara Watson Brooks of Palm Bay, Fla. whose husband Bill predeceased his father, and their sons Taylor and Hunter.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 17, 2011. The family will receive friends after the service at the Church with light refreshments served. Bob's ashes will be scattered later by the family from the dock at St. Teresa Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice House or Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church.
