Bob Burns was my organ teacher at Simpson and prepared me for my Senior Recital in 1965 which I played at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. He was a wonderful, supportive teacher whom I remember with respect and fondness. I was surprised to learn when visiting family in Des Moines a few years later that he had moved and was engaged in ventures than organ playing and teaching. He will be missed.

Bob was a brilliant organist and choir director at First United Methodist Church in Des Moines. More than that, he was a sensitive and compassionate human being. The world will miss him.

Bob was one of my professors as a Music Major at Simpson. He was always very kind to me and listened to me a lot as I worked toward finding my niche in the world of music. My heart goes out to his family and my prayers will be with you. Signed, Peggy Golden-George, Voice and Music Education graduate, Class of 1975

Robert Burns was my favorite professor at Simpson College, 1970-74. I considered him to be a brilliant musician as well as a gifted teacher. Most of all, he was a lovely and loyal friend. My father, John W. Darlington, a United Methodist pastor, spoke fondly of "Bob Burns" prior to my becoming acquainted with him at Simpson. He'd made a wonderful name for himself as the "music minister" (as we used to call them) at First Church. I have often spoken of him with Simpson alums, the most recent having happened just last week when I was reminiscing with a fellow music major about the creativity and effective teaching method "Mr. Burns" employed in his music theory lesson plans. I will genuinely miss him. So much of what music has added to my life is a direct result of him. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" That is what he die!
