Robert Burton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 23 to Apr. 24, 2023.
Robert Carl Burton also known as Bob, Silly Grandpa, Happy Pappy, and Pops left us on April 13th, 2023, for other side.

The oldest of two children born to Gladys and Carl Burton on March 14th, 1929, his mother always claimed he started the great depression.

Bob lived life to its fullest for 94 years. He was a prankster, storytelling, loving, stubborn, generous, hardworking, opinionated, and handsome flirt. No one was safe from his dirty jokes or colorful stories.

Bob served in the Korean War in the Air Force and later trained as a barber. He fathered 4 children and raised his 3 stepchildren like his own. The Brady Bunch or the Brat Pack years were a challenge, but he parented with a style all his own.

Bob started the "M-Den" Barber Shop on Campus in the late 50's and later had the Kings Men Barber Shop by North Campus in Ann Arbor. Barbering was the best career for his joke telling as he had a captive audience. He continued to barber until he was 85, when he finally retired his clippers and combs. He managed to get into horse racing with trotters and pacers in the 1970's and had horses until the late 90's on the farm in Chelsea, fondly called Binder Twine Acres by family.

Bob had a personality larger than life and lived life on his own terms. Once you met Bob, he was hard to forget! He loved hard, had the biggest heart and the most generous spirit. He will be missed by those who loved him most.

Bob is survived by his children; John Dwyer, Dawn (Burton) Boland, Brad Burton (Kim), Craig Burton, stepchildren John Michael Stewart (Dawn), and Jim Stewart and a whole slew of family members. His stepdaughter Tracey Stewart and sister Monica Thibault (John) precede him in death.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday April 30th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Dexter Huron Metro Park Pavilion A. All family and friends are welcome.
