ROBERT CASCIATO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 19 to Jan. 20, 2014.
CASCIATO
ROBERT C. "BOB", Sr.
89, beloved husband for 55 years to Mary "Audrey" (McIntyre), of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 17, 2014, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born May 4, 1924, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late George and Mary (D'Andrea) Casciato. He was predeceased by first wife, Mary (Maffeo); son, Robert, Jr.; and brothers, John (Annie) and Charles "Nutchy" (Mary). He is survived by his pride and joy, his children, Mary Cecilia (Leigh Gerstenberger), Edward Casciato, Roberta (Larry Luba), Gina (Eugene Vennare), Frank (Christine Casciato); and a loving former daughter-in-law, Jean Casciato; he was an amazing grandfather to Rob (Genna Gerstenberger), Abby Casciato, Kathryn (Cullen Richardson), Andrea Vennare, Shane (Trish Luba), Morgan Casciato, Anthony Casciato, and Sam Luba; and great-grandfather to Isla Richardson; also survived by his brother, Dan Casciato (Anna); and his sister, Mary Bellisario. Bob was a strong advocate for the people of Oakland and Panther Hollow, where he never hesitated to take on the "giants" of the city to fight for the rights of his people, and lovingly known by the community as "Mayor Mort". He also served as Committee Chairman for 4th Ward, City of Pittsburgh. Working hard to provide for his large family, one of his many jobs, which fit his love of people and charming personality, was Usher at Forbes Field (1942-1970) and Three Rivers Stadium (1970-2000), for over 50 years! He had a unique way of making everyone feel loved by his storytelling, jokes, and caring ways. He worked diligently as laborer and then foreman at Pittsburgh's City Water Department for over 27 years (1958 to 1985). His conscientious work ethic and attention to detail earned him the respect and honor of co-workers, supervisors, and customers alike. He had a great love for Jesus, delicious Italian food, dancing, and family gatherings. He was a man of great integrity who instilled Christian values in all of his children and grandchildren. His legacy will live on throughout the years through many generations to come as they remember him fondly celebrating all aspects of his life. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street, www.freyvogelfuneralhome.com, on Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Monday, Mass of Christian Burial, St. Paul Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Pittsburgh Project, 2801 North Charles St., PGH., PA 15214.

I want to extend my condolences to the Casciato family. I vividly remember Bob's energetic, spirited personality. He filled the room whenever he was present. He will have the angels and saints in heaven rollicking with laughter. I'm sure that the Pirates will be in the World Series with Bob watching over them.

I wish to express my condolences to the Casciato family. Words seem insufficient at this difficult time. We all need comfort when a loved one dies. May you find real comfort and relief from our heavenly Father, family and friends; and as a result, begin to recover gradually from the pain. Love from those around you will help you through the days ahead. The precious memories of your loved one will bring you comfort.

Bob, was a great father, husband, friend to many and he was my Godfather. I have many fond memories of Bob, from when I also lived in Panther Hollow. He looked out for the kids and was an advocate for the adults. Bob will be very much missed. He was one if a kind! R.I.P.

“To sin by silence when one should protest makes cowards of men.”

Bob was a man of integrity, humor and couragae who was passionate about family, community and his Italian heritage.

While he is gone, his legacy lives on.
