Born Aug. 27, 1921, in Leechburg, he lived in the Kiski Valley most of his life. A World War II veteran, he served with the Navy as an aviation machinist mate. Prior to retiring, he was a parent counselor 11 years at George Junior Republic in Grove City. He also had been a self-employed barber and beautician at Polly's Parlor in Vandergrift with his wife, and was the manager of the Apollo Elks Country Club. Mr. Castelnuovo was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Knights of Columbus, all in Vandergrift, the Marconi Club of Leechburg and the Apollo Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards and the lottery. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paulann (Rick) Thomas of Brownsville and Mrs. Robertta "Bobbie" (Mark) Morda of Ford City. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Eryn and Tyler Thomas and Tiffany and Kristy Morda. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Miska Castelnuovo, in 1994; his parents, John and Annie Castigliano Castelnuovo; and a sister, Louise Biagioni. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Gertrude Church, by the Rev. Thaddeus Rettger. Burial will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift.
