Robert CELLINI Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 21 to Feb. 22, 2015.

Robert "Bob"

A. Cellini, Jr.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - Robert "Bob" Anthony Cellini, Jr., passed away Feb. 18, 2015, at Hospice Soendergaard, outside Copenhagen, Denmark, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cellini, Sr.

Bob's memory will be cherished by his wife, Hanne Svensson; son, Marco; mother, Sharon (Zock) Cellini; brother, Craig Cellini (Laura); two nephews; in-laws, Vagn and Grethe Svensson; brother-in-law, Henrik Svensson; two nieces; aunts, Janis Cellini (Bernie), and Vickie Hinchcliff (George); uncles, Bill Cellini (Julie), and George Zock (Linda); many cousins and dear friends.

Bob was born in Springfield, Ill., on March 30, 1964, to Robert "Bob" Cellini, Sr., and Sharon (Zock) Cellini. He attended Griffin High School and graduated from Eastern Illinois University. He worked for the State of Illinois in Springfield and Chicago in Labor Relations and in Toronto where he served as Trade Director, in the Canadian Office of the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Bob met his beautiful and devoted wife, Hanne, while they were studying in Italy and they were married in June of 2001 in Copenhagen. Bob was a loving father to their young son, Marco, whom he was extremely proud of and enjoyed immensely. He was blessed with a loving and close relationship with his Danish in-laws.

Fluent in Danish, Bob worked as a journalist for The Copenhagen Post before serving as an English teacher at Copenhagen Adult Education Center. Before his diagnosis, Bob was working at a job he loved as a technical translator for Banedanmark, the national infrastructure authority of Denmark.

Bob loved sports and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. He loved reading, travel, craft beers, good wines, fine food and was an excellent cook.

Bob may be remembered foremost as a multi-talented, gifted musician, excelling at piano, guitar and bass. Having studied music since the age of six, he became a performer and songwriter in local bands, including the Kings Idylls, St. Croix and Mutiny, as well as leading his own groups in Chicago during the 1990s. Bob recorded and toured world-wide with the Canadian band Gone Hazel and with Yardshaker, his Danish 'ska' group that formed in 2001.

Towards the end of his illness, Bob reached out to his closest friends and family to share these thoughts; "Nothing more in this world matters than to be appreciated and remembered fondly ... your thoughts, prayers and love are here with me ... it's just fantastic to have so much support and affection. Thank you all, you've helped show me how much friendship means when it's needed most."

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 28 in Præstebro Kirke (Church). The address is: Tornerosevej 115, 2730 Herlev., Denmark.

Bob and I were roommates at EIU we had great fun. Playing pool in bars, watching sports, debating who the best college hoops team and he almost made me a Buffalo fan ! We would rattle off sports stats like nothing. Our team won the EIU trivia on year because he somehow knew some arcane olympic swimmers stats. Really can't believe its been 6 years. I hope his family knows how much of a fun a guy he was. Wicked smart and funny. Missed by many. Godspeed

I knew about Bob's passing at the time, but I think that even with the passage of 2 years, I haven't forgotten about him at all. I played music with Bob in Gone Hazel in Toronto and amongst many things, he was an extremely talented songwriter, singer and bass player and a friend. I am lucky to have some of his music still with me as well as the memories of the fun we had writing, recording and playing together. I write this today because I was playing one of his songs very recently and was again struck by his talent. His writing always showed a depth of emotion and thoughtfulness that I only wish I could achieve. I miss you Bob, and thanks for the great songs!

Rest in peace my old friend. You were a great inspiration and like a mentor to me. The years in Yardshaker are some of the best in my life and you taught me so much about music and perhaps more importantly about life. My most deepest condolences to the family.

When you sit opposite someone at work every day for a couple of years you get to know what they're passionate about. I have many memories of Robert waxing lyrically about music, sport, and above all, little Marco. My condolences to all his family.

Our bond over being forced to take piano lessons in third grade and a love of cartooning forged a friendship for life. I admired Bob's immense courage throughout his second cancer battle and his devotion to Marco. So sorry I missed what should have been our last gig together. We'll play again, I'm sure. Condolences to Hanne, Marco, Sharon, Craig and the rest of the family.

It's with a deep sense of loss that I learn of the death of such a young vibrant "friend". I didn't know Robert Jr. well, but always was a friend of his father, Bobby (to me), his uncle Bill, Aunt Janis and his cousin Frank. They were always so close, supportive and loyal. I even knew and admired his Grandfather, Bill. Your own current family sounds great. Sorry I couldn't know them too.
