Dear May and Family:
I wish you all the best in this time of mourning. I will remember Robert as a generous colleague and friend.

Robert sprang into the Department in the late 1970s with his irrepressible good humour and generous smile. Over the years as a younger colleague, I appreciated his goodwill and the support he offered and the encouragement he was quick to give in all manner of departmental and literary affairs. He did not stint with his genuine interest and auspicious greetings.
During those years we may not have thanked Robert enough for his professional example and generous words. On a lighter note, I trust that in his retirement years he enjoyed the company of the ‘luncheon club’ who met from time to time to talk about books and life. I also hope he forgave me for choosing the Green Door restaurant so often. Robert was no vegetarian and he was gracious to accept my favourite eatery in town as a meeting venue, even though its cafeteria style format did not contribute to his gustatory enjoyment. He was a gentleman and a scholar, in the best sense of those words, and we will miss him at our gatherings.
May, you stood by Robert through thick and thin, in these difficult last days. May his memory be for a blessing and may the many enriching years you shared together console and sustain you in this distressing time.
Heartfelt condolences,
Seymour

My dear friend, this has been a long and painful journey for the both of you, especially this last month. His journey ended peacefully with the person he loved most by his side..you. Take comfort in knowing that you did everything humanly possible that you could, to make his life easier, throughout, and in his last days. God Bless. Love and Friendship,
Ewen Douglas Cornish

While doing an undergraduate degree I took an English course from Dr. Collins. He was that rare breed of university professor who had life experience prior to becoming a professor, and this only added depth and a much needed dose of reality to his lectures. He was always entertaining, knowledgeable, and liked young people. He introduced his students to such 19th century novelists as Charles Reade (who out sold Dickens in his day),writers who were not as well known to students. The world of acadème needs more teachers like Dr. Robert Collins and it is hoped that one or more of his students followed in his footsteps, or at least took something away from his lectures which eventually helped them in present day life. My condolences.

Dear May,
I know it has been a difficult few months for you, but please remember that Robert left us in your loving arms surrounded by the things he loved most. He lived a full life and has left his legacy for all those people living with Parkinsons, he made a difference. It is now time for you to begin your healing process, and I will help you along that path. We will remember Robert always. Love Carmel Boosamra
