In memory of

Travis Bermingham

My brother and I regularly went on excursions with our grandpa Sammy. We grew up in central Mass, about a 45 minute drive from his Boston apartment. Some of my fondest memories come from when he would take us down to Walden for a day on the pond, or when he took us to crane beach and taught us how to body surf . To this day I haven´t encountered anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature the way he did. I´m so grateful that I was able to spend the first 15 years of my life with him. However, as I mature, I´m filled with regret as I feel I didn´t appreciate his presence enough. Every time I read this obituary I am reminded of how much I didn´t know about him, and how much I could have learned from him. Truly the wisest man I ever knew, I would do anything to have one more sit down conversation with him. Love you forever gramps.

I knew Bob briefly as a young child but my contact with him was interrupted when I was 4 ....that was when my mother and I left New York for Arizona. I saw him briefly when we flew back for a visit, and then came to live with his family when my mother became ill, and his father collected me from Arizona and flew me back to New York. I stayed with his family from January to the end of the school year, when I moved then to live with my father in Roslyn Harbor. I remember Bob as a bit different from his brothers...quieter, more introspective. They were a great family, and life in their home was full of good times.

Many special moments through he years. I met Sammy in Carver, working on his house with his brother -in -law. And many long conversations around the campfires. We miss him always, great friend and a truly gentle man.

Sammy was regular part of our MayDay celebration. I can still see him camping here with his small children. And all those years of sunbathing. His passing leaves an enormous ache in our hearts. A wonderful man to have known and shared with. Love to his family.

We are happy to have met Sammy. We always loved the being together with him and Daniel and enjoyed the conservations on all topics of the world. Sammy was very friendly and open minded. He passed away much too soon.
We will keep him always in our mind and we hope, he will rest in peace.
In loving memory

Der Tod ist nicht das Ende,
nicht die Vergaenglichkeit,
der Tod ist nur die Wende,

Sammy you are missed. I am so grateful that I was able to spend time with Sammy, he was so interesting, so kind, so knowledgeable, so honest and loving. And oh my, he could dance! He could sing! He could cook! He created memories with his art, He had so many adventures, knew so many people all over the world. Sammy gave an architectural tour in the alleys of DC! He was the most beautiful human being.
To your family, our deepest sympathies to each of you. Please know that I am sending positive thoughts, prayer and love .

As we begin preparations for a Hardwick May Day celebrations Sammy's arrival was greatly anticipated.
I had the privilege of meeting his children and grandchildren and lastly Daniel. Always the first to get on the pond in the resident canoe Sammie reveled in our country escape in central MA. Key were our warm conversations and appreciations to our lives.
Peace to all. Bravo on a wonderful life.

Sammy and Peggy looked after me when an adolescent in the early 70's. Before the arrival of Christian. Through these many decades Sammy always offered a welcoming embrace and infinite understanding of what it is to walk in this troubled landscape. I too have returned to the mountains of the Canadian Rockies, defending trees and watersheds, a direct line can be drawn to Sammy. So very sad for all of us who will miss his calm and loving attentions.

I was lucky to meet Robert at the Saena Iulia Italian School in Siena, Tuscany. His good humor and openness to try and discover all the landscapes and flavours that Italy had to offer, made me realize and learn that there's no age to allow yourself to be impressed, to see things as if you're seeing them or trying then for the first time. He was a candid soul, with amazing many talents.
You'll be missed, my friend. Fly high and free.
