My sincere condolences to the Dakin family on the loss of your beloved family member. I served as the Chair of the Department of Linguistics from 2009 - 2018. One of my first jobs was to organize our department's 40 reunion my first year. I had known about and heard about Bob before, but actually got to meet him and work him into our program at that time. It's amazing all the people he influenced, and the course he put our department on. Thank you so much, Bob! You aren't forgotten. May you rest in peace!

Rob,
When I was younger, the main things I knew about your father were that he was a college professor and my father's favorite cousin. As an adult, I so appreciated having the opportunity to get to know him by e-mail, after he contacted me on Valentine's Day of 2002, responding to my post on a genealogy message board. Our mutual search for our Civil War ancestor John Dakin finally paid off in 2006, and I was very grateful for the family anecdotes and old photos Bob generously shared. He would always apologize for the length of his e-mails, but I assured him, the longer the better! To me, his reminiscences were priceless. I'm especially grateful that we were able to get together in person in 2013, and sad that we will not meet again.
You are in my thoughts at this difficult time; please let me know if I can help in any way.

Dear Robert and Theresa and Family,
We send our deepest condolences to you. I remember your father, Bob, from visits through my late mother, Marian. She was a first cousin and the daughter of Harry and Verna. When we still lived in North Canton, Ohio, he came to visit us with Mom. He was a delight to know and to talk with and I know he will be greatly missed by many. May you have many sweet memories to reminisce his great legacy to your family. May the Lord hold you all close with comfort.
With love and prayers,
Marilyn
