Carole was my closest friend in college & in the years that followed. I cannot comprehend the grief of losing a sibling or a child. Carol, Robert, Margaret and their family will be in my daily prayers for the next month. I've been in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom for the past 20 years and know that Carol would love the freedoms that exists here. Robert's passions are everywhere. My disabilities prevent me from traveling & I'm keeping my eyes open to see you Carole here sometime in the future. I love you and miss our honest and real friendship time together.

Carole-
I just read the news about your brother. I didn't know Robert very well, but I do remember when I would come to your house or saw him in school he was always very nice to me. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Robert and I were in Government class together in 1988. He seldom spoke but one day in class Mrs. Altman asked a question about railroads. No one raised their hand until finally, after what felt like an eternity, Robert raised his hand. We were all surprised as he was so quiet, but he answered the question accurately and in detail. I'll never forget that tiny bit of insight into Robert's character. I did not know him well at all, but he seemed like a gentle guy. I am sad to hear he passed away, and wish the best to his family and closest friends.

Margaret and Carol-
You know how much I loved and respected Rob for his love, compassion, support, and encouragement that he showed me over the years. He is a soul that has more karma points than any I have ever met and I know he will always be with us in his own way. Rob is a life force that even without a body will continue to help and guide all who loved him through this difficult time. My thoughts, energy and love are with you-Weenonah

There are simply no words to express how deeply saddened I was to learn of "Darby's" untimely passing. I had the honor of knowing Rob since the 8th grade (1983) and from the first introduction, he was never anything but kind to me. I didn't see him often over the years following high school, but whenever I did, I was always met with the warmest greeting - he had a way of making one feel like they were invited, welcome and included in any gathering. My most heartfelt sympathies go out to his friends, loved ones and family at this terribly difficult time. He will, indeed, be missed.

Margaret and Carole,
Hearing of Robert's untimely death is a shock indeed. RobaDarb (my pet name for him) was one of my very favorite people. Being his fourth grade teacher was indeed a pleasure and we formed a friendship that brought him to mind often even though I didn't see him anymore. My first words to Margaret were always "How's RobaDarb?" You couldn't know Robert and not love him. Only time will ease this sudden loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in the unfortunate season of your life. Just remember that that big heart of his touched many lives and his memory will endure.
Love to you both,
Miss A

I was so shocked and sad when I heard of Rob’s death. He was a very special young man. Not just because he was a member of Rikki's Board of Directors. Not just because he was a wonderful volunteer. But because he was one of the kindest souls you’d ever expect to meet, ready to reach out and give anyone a hand if they needed it. He was here for the animals, and he was here for the people. At Rikki’s he built nature trails, wildlife observation areas, a log cabin and he raised the roof at Rabbit Rotunda after the awful ice storm last year.
Everybody here at Rikki's who ever knew him loved him dearly. He was an exceptional young man. Rob will be terribly missed by every human at Rikki's and by every animal at Rikki's and most of all by his family. Margaret, never forget how much he loved you. It was so touching to hear a young man talk so fondly of his mother.
It's a hard goodbye to say. You, of all people, deserved to be here a lot longer, Rob. I know that when you raced over the Rainbow Bridge on your ATV there were lots of Rikki’s critters waiting to greet you. Bless you and may your family and friends remember the good times.
The Rob Darby Memorial Fund will be used to protect the wilderness and it’s animals that Rob so dearly loved.

I am struggling to find the words to express how profoundly sad I am to learn about Robert's sudden and unexpected death. I feel fortunate to have known Robert -- his gentle spirit and kind heart are attributes I have long admired. Within his strong stature, there was an amazing and beautiful soul that he so generously shared with everyone he encountered. My love to Mrs. Darby, Carole, and all those who are grieving this unimaginable loss.

There is a great deal to be remembered about Robert Darby. The most outstanding characteristic he held was his loyalty. His unfailing loyalty to his family and friends was always in evidence. From the time he was a young man, still in elementary school, he held to that ideal with tenacity.
To ease the pain for his family would be among his wishes. I am so sorry that Robert's life was shortened even for a moment.

I went to school with Rob and spent alot of good times with him. He always had that smile and we laughed with each other so hard sometimes it hurt. I have so many good memories of Rob. He will always be remembered for who he was. Strong, Dependable, Funny, and a true good friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Darby Family. I will miss him with all of my heart and so will all his friends and everyone who knew him.

To the Darby family:
Robert was in the same class with my son, Colin, from Laurel Ridge Grammar School through Robinson High School, in days when we all lived in King's Park West. I specifically remember his courteous manner and affable smile. Please accept our deepest sympathy over his loss. May his kind spirit help comfort you until you meet again. Sincerely,

Robert was a person that helped to shape so many lives that it is impossible to know exactly the right thing to say. For those that loved him, and for those he loved; his personality, his compassion, the desire to be a helping hand for everyone he cared for, and the heart he put into all he did will never be forgotten.
May each person struggling with their feelings in this loss find individual thoughts and memories that bring you comfort.
