Robert Dubay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2015.
ORONO - Robert "Bob" A. Dubay, 79, died June 30, 2015, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. He was born April 5, 1936, in Presque Isle, Maine, the son of Adlord and Amelia Dubay.

Bob met his high school sweetheart, Rosaree Letourneau, at the Waterville Roller Rink. He graduated from Waterville High in 1954, entered the Air Force, and returned to marry Rosaree upon her graduation. Over the course of their marriage, he had assignments in Maine, California, Alaska, Texas, and Florida. Also during this time they reared five children. Bob was a talented, award-winning artist, recognized for his landscapes and portraiture. He flew to remote areas of Alaska with hunters, to photograph its wild landscapes. Prior to construction of the Amistad Hydroelectric Dam in the Rio Grande river basin, he partook in cave digs to save native artifacts from being lost to the planned flooding. As a Master Sargent in the Air Force, he helped develop and implement computerized military intelligence systems at US Central Command.

He received a US Army Warrant Officer appointment before departing to Chu Lai Combat Base in Vietnam. Upon his return, he retired from Military Service. Bob enjoyed many hobbies over the course of his lifetime. He was an innovator and especially liked building and creating electronic and electromechanical devices. Over the decades, he embraced and mastered the latest technologies from tube TV's in the early 70's to integrated circuits in the 80's through today's modern computers. Over the last several years, he looked forward to having his daily "prayer time with God," while watering his spring and summer flowers. In his last days at home Hospice, Bob enjoyed the loving companionship of his wife of 59 years, his companion cats Tiki and Moxie, and the views of his woodland gardens.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, seven sisters, two brothers, and one great granddaughter. He is survived by two sisters and one brother. Surviving in addition to his loving wife Rosaree, are daughters Jennifer Durgan and her husband, Richard, of Clifton, Laura Goodin and her husband, Mark, of Levant, Rhonda Cuprak and her husband, Alexander, of Burlington, son Karl Dubay and wife Maryann, of Windham NH, daughter Marja Dubay of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada, and six grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6 at St. Paul The Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street. All are invited to Saint Mary's Parish Hall for conversation and lunch, following interment in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Promoting quality education to large families was important to Bob; thus gifts in his memory may be made to the All Saints Catholic School Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1749, Bangor, ME 04402.
